Carnival Cruise Line is Hiring a Remote Interior Design Manager

Job Description

The Interior Design Manager is responsible for developing and managing various design projects, with regard to area refurbishments, new building projects, and physical/functional improvements. As an Interior Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the aesthetic appeal, functionality, and overall guest experience of our CCL Fleet. You will lead a talented team of interior designers and collaborate closely with various departments to ensure that our interior spaces align with our brand identity and exceed guest expectations.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop large-scale design projects simultaneously, according to desired objectives and goals.
  • Lead the interior design team under the direction of AVP of Design in conceptualizing, planning, and executing innovative interior design concepts for newbuild and refurbishment projects across the cruise line fleet.
  • Manage and develop presentation boards, renderings, drawings, floor plans, elevations, detail sections, finishes schedules, lighting/reflective ceiling plans and area specifications, as needed.
  • Facilitate design requests from CCL Operations. Collaborate with stakeholders and project sponsors to comprehend desired branded concepts and design needs for the projects. Identify any potential design issues that may increase cost and provide adequate solutions within project sponsor’s budget.
  • Apply sound knowledge of architecture principles and practices in a broad array of assignments and projects. Provide technical guidance on unusual or complex issues to Architects/CAD Drafters.
  • Manage numerous design projects for the department, under the direction of AVP of Design, assessing quality and timeliness of completion. Motivate and supervise design team to ensure project deadlines are respected. Evaluate quality of work produced; offer direction and coaching, when required.
  • Oversee and indirectly manage interior design team, consisting of 5 designers/architects based on project assignment. Oversee team’s activities and initiatives. Manage current project workload to schedule assignments based on priority and deadlines.
  • Make recommendations to improve the maintainability of the interior design elements on the ships; impose design standards to increase life-cycle cost effectiveness. Approve material samples, proposed substitutes, and contractors’ shop drawings for refurbishment projects to ensure design objectives are accurately reflected.
  • Review and approve project specifications drafted by design team, including defined scope of work, material identification information, and related drawings. Draft specifications and related materials, when required.
  • Review recently completed projects. Compare finished results to design specifications and renderings. Work with the Director of Quality to create a work list for items needing rework.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design preferred
  • 7 years of Design experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD, Photoshop, and 3D modelling software.
  • Good 3D hand sketching skills required
  • Strong knowledge of interior design principles, space planning, furniture design, lighting design, and FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment) specifications.
  • Impressive portfolio of previous projects and clientele.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large interior design projects from concept to completion, preferably within the hospitality, cruise, or luxury travel industry.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Former design manager/senior designer capable of supervising a team of interior designers and managing a large project workload.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners, and senior management.
  • Creative flair, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering exceptional design solutions that enhance the guest experience.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time. Requires regular movement throughout CCL facilities. May need to stand for long periods of time.

Travel: 25-50% ship and shore-based travel

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery. May be requested to work a different shift. Travel for site visits, supplier meetings, and shipyard inspections.

The range for this role’s base salary is $75,900 - $115,000. Offers to selected candidates will be made on a fair and equitable basis, taking into account specific job-related skills and experience.
