Care Hospice is currently hiring a Payroll Manager to join our fabulous team in Charlottesville, VA! We are looking for an experienced payroll leader to develop and lead our in-house payroll team. The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the payroll department's activities and resources to ensure alignment with the mission, values, and objectives of the department and organization. The Payroll Manager provides leadership and knowledge to a team of 5 Payroll Specialists that process payroll for 3,000 colleagues across the organization (multiple states, pay cycles, & lines of business).

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the payroll processing activities for the payroll department, which includes work allocation, problem resolution and training.
  • Manages preparation of multi-state payroll within the line of business, including earning codes, taxes, benefits, and consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws.
  • Processes payroll on a weekly basis for multiple pay groups across multiple states.
  • Provides support for mergers and acquisitions.
  • Understands proper tax treatment and processing requirements for wages and employer paid benefits.
  • Manages workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
  • Selects, supervises, trains, and coaches the payroll team; provides ongoing feedback and management of the team's performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with Payroll Software/HRIS - ADP Workforce Now is highly preferred.
  • 3 years experience in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience as a payroll manager or similar role.
  • Merger & Acquisition experience is preferred.
  • Ability to operate in fast-paced dynamic environment, handle multiple projects simultaneously, assess priorities, meet deadlines, and seek details to plan ahead.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to make formal presentations in front of large audiences as needed.
  • Self-motivation; organized and flexible in an agile work environment, and is a proactive problem-solver requiring minimal supervision.
  • CMS requires that all patient-facing staff, as well as those that are in contact with patient-facing staff, be fully vaccinated, or have a documented religious or medical exemption. This important rule is required for all healthcare organizations that receive federal funds through Medicare or Medicaid.
