Capstone On Campus Management is Hiring a Student Maintenance Assistant (Queens College) Near Flushing, NY

Job Title: SummerStudent Maintenance Assistant

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

Location: The Summit Apartments at Queens College

Compensation: See compensation summary. Position not eligible for benefits

Contract Date: May 27th, 2024 – August 23rd, 2024 

FLSA Status: Student Non-Exempt 

Summary

The Summer Student Maintenance Assistant is responsible for assisting with the upkeep, maintenance, and repairs of The Summit community. The Summer Student Maintenance Assistant helps to maintain and repair basic building functions such as appliances, windows, flooring, walls, ceilings, electrical equipment, emergency lighting, interior and exterior building lighting, and building plumbing systems. Duties include painting, plumbing, maintaining work logs, stocking and organizing the maintenance shop, and keeping machinery and equipment in good working order. Projecting a customer focused and professional image through interaction with all internal and external customers is essential. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with the moving of all the furniture out of each apartment (stoves, beds, refrigerators, desk, sofa and chairs etc.) 
  • Cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and living rooms of each apartment.
  • Assist with the cleaning and mopping of each trash room along with the removal of trash. 
  • Painting of units and common area lounges and hallways.
  • Washing walls and doors.
  • Cleaning carpets and upholstered furniture.
  • Cleaning and picking up of the interior hallways and exterior of the Summit Apartments.
  • Cleaning of the Lobby and cleaning and set up of MCR, including bathrooms.
  • Assist with general preventative maintenance of apartments and spaces within The Summit.
  • Notify supervisor respond and report situations needing attention.
  • Participate in training and administrative tasks.
  • Perform administrative duties in a thorough and timely manner. 
  • Attend all meetings and events as assigned. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma.
  • Current student in good standing within the CUNY system.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication.
  • Possess strong customer service skills.
  • Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. 
  • Ability to move and lift to 50lbs and navigate up and down stairs.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. 

Compensation

Compensation is $16.00 per hour (not to exceed 30 hours per week) and assigned room (if needed) within community. Position not eligible for benefits.
