Position Summary: 

The General Manager will provide strategic leadership to the Capitol Wholesale Fence operating company driving profitable sales growth in existing markets, as well as working with the broader FSG organization to capitalize on profitable growth opportunities in new markets. Capitol Wholesale Fence has 6 locations in the Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina area.

To accomplish this, the General Manager will work with FSG to design, implement and modify Capitol Wholesale Fence ’s organization structure, compensation model, management processes and metrics. The General Manager will also play a key leadership role in the coaching and development of Capitol Wholesale Fence’s sales and operations teams to ensure Capitol Wholesale Fence reaches its financial goals, while delivering market leading levels of customer experience. 

Reporting to the Division President, the General Manager is responsible for the effective management of Capitol Wholesale Fence ’s P&L and Balance Sheet to include sales forecasting, budgeting and performance management across all functions and branches. This position requires a strong balance of strategic, operational, communication and people leadership skills. 

Position Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Drives the importance of safety by creating and reinforcing a safety culture throughout Capitol Wholesale Fence’s operations 
  • Owns the strategic planning process and plan execution for Capitol Wholesale Fence that is consistent with FSG initiatives and expectations; establishes Capitol Wholesale Fence’s annual sales and financial objectives 
  • Works with financial team to monitor and manage performance to budget; identifies and develops improvement plans to address performance gaps 
  • Builds and manages a high-performance leadership team, providing strong, strategic guidance and development for team members 
  • Defines and leverages Capitol Wholesale Fence’s value proposition and aligns Capitol Wholesale Fence ’s salesforce to profitably capitalize on the company’s differentiated customer offering 
  • Designs, implements, and continually refines Capitol Wholesale Fence’s sales disciplines that maximize profitable growth and aligns individual and company success 
  • Provides strong accountability and coaching towards the fulfillment of key performance indicators 
  • Interacts regularly with the executive team and individual department heads to ensure priorities are aligned with broader company direction 
  • Introduces process improvement measures and presents suggestions to the executive team for consideration (as applicable) 
  • Works to establish customer sales and service strategies and participates in relations with top and strategic customers 
  • Collaborates with supply chain to develop, manage, and enhance supplier relations contributing to the execution of Capitol Wholesale Fence’s strategic plan and financial objectives 
  • Works closely with the pricing team to develop and execute Capitol Wholesale Fence’s pricing strategy that meets revenue goals and maximizes gross profit potential 
  • Establishes profitable growth strategies utilizing available market intelligence, customer/supplier data and business analytics 

Requirements

 Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in construction product sales/distribution and/or manufacturing of construction products (preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in leadership positions, preferably managing managers across multiple locations/facilities and departments.
  • Experience creating and implementing strategic growth plans
  • Track record for recruiting and developing superior talent
  • Strong customer focus and commercial mindset
  • Demonstrated P&L leadership
  • Proficient at leading, developing, and coaching managers
  • Demonstrated ability to lead work independently and cross functionally throughout an organization
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively partner with other business leaders including Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Human Resources, Marketing, Pricing, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems positively and professionally
