Capital University is Hiring a Chief Diversity Officer Near Columbus, OH

Capital University invites applications for the position of Chief Diversity Officer. Capital University's mission embraces inclusion through its commitment to preparing individuals to be knowledgeable, independent, critical thinkers educated for lives of leadership and service in an increasingly diverse society. This role provides leadership and strategic planning for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that support Capital's mission. The CDO actively collaborates with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the community to develop procedures, processes, and policies that create a welcoming and inclusive institutional climate.

Primary roles and responsibilities:

  • Provides vision, leadership, and guidance for university-wide DEI initiatives that support Capital's mission and strategic plan.
  • Implement diversity and inclusion programming to support campus cultural development in collaboration with the Office of Diversity & Inclusion.
  • Manages, leads, and orchestrates the university Bias Response team, including Maxient systems management, intake of involved parties, and research of protected classes and bias national trends.
  • Advise and support diverse student and staff populations, particularly those from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Co-develop, implement, evaluate, and assess programs to support student and employee retention and persistence and success.
  • Gathers and leads all DEI staff across all campuses including Trinity, Law, Admissions, and Athletics.
  • Provide on-going development and support for the Smooth Transitions program, including implementation of a year-long transition/mentorship program.
  • Responsible for all operations functions including strategic planning, assessment, annual reporting, budgeting, and implementation, review, and revision of DEI related policy and procedures.
  • Responsible for evaluation and training of the Associate Director of The ODI who reports directly to the CDO
  • Develops programing and facilitates meetings/events for POC affinity group, LGBTQIA Affinity group, and DEI Work group.
  • Serves on President's Cabinet and attends Board of Trustee meetings as well as participate on Mission & Identity sub-committee.
  • Consulted and collaborated with for DEI related communication matters.
  • Lead and develop university-wide programs including, but not limited to, MLK Day of Learning and Smooth Transitions
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to provide training and increase university-wide cultural competency.
  • Collaborate and co-program with strategic partners and allies (Campus Ministries, the Seminary, the Law School, and the broader Community).
  • Facilitate workshops and trainings in collaboration with the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.
  • Seek grant opportunities; develop and implement funded programs as well as partner with advancement for diversity related fundraising efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Experience working with Diversity and Inclusion and Bias reporting, including an understanding of data, retention, and scholarship of underserved students.
  • Knowledge of mentoring, student success, and bridge program models preferred.
  • Knowledge of current higher education diversity, inclusion, and equity trends.
