Cape Henry Collegiate is Hiring a Learning Support Teacher Near Virginia, VA

Under the supervision of the respective division head and the director of learning support, the Cape Henry Collegiate Learning Support Teacher is responsible for facilitating the academic and personal growth of students with diverse learning needs. This role focuses on implementing specialized teaching strategies to empower students to reach their full potential. Responsibilities include developing individualized learning plans, offering data driven instructional support, providing professional learning for teachers with the purpose of fostering an inclusive environment, and guiding students towards becoming more self-sufficient learners and self-advocates. The learning support teacher plays a pivotal role in empowering students to become independent learners, equipped with the skills and confidence needed for success at Cape Henry Collegiate and beyond.

To that end, the Learning Support Teacher will....

  • Teach classes using a tiered model of learning support (inclusion, small group, 1:1).
  • Collaborate with the learning support team to develop, implement, and review individualized learning plans tailored to each student's needs.
  • Adapt learning materials to meet diverse needs while aligning with the curriculum.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments to gauge student progress and inform instructional strategies.
  • Teach self-monitoring techniques to help students track academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Coordinate with teachers and the school counselor to manage in-class accommodations and support strategies.
  • Schedule and lead bi-annual meetings with parents to discuss student goals and progress.
  • Conduct student observations and screenings, recommending appropriate support levels to the director of learning support or division head.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure smooth transitions and consistent support for students advancing to the next grade or college.
  • Be a visible and engaged member of the school community.

The learning support teacher will have...

  • Specialized training in multisensory math instruction, executive skill functioning, structured literacy strategies, and/or Wilson, Orton-Gillingham or similar reading programs.
  • Deep knowledge of best practices in learning support, fostering a learning environment focused on student independence and self-advocacy.
  • The ability to offer professional development to support teachers in utilizing instructional strategies to support students with learning differences in an inclusive model.
  • Experience working with a tiered model of learning support interventions
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring abilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Candidates with a Master’s Degree and/or state teaching license will be given preferential treatment.
