Under supervision of the Head of Middle School, the Middle School math teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing lessons which cover both the content and skills of the grade 6 math program using the Singapore math framework. Qualified candidates will be able to create and provide an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for each student as well as monitor and evaluate academic outcomes. All Cape Henry Collegiate teachers are expected to communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community in a manner that represents the mission and core values of the school.

The Middle School math teacher will be able to...

• Plan and implement lessons that extend and build upon established mathematical skills and begin to investigate more abstract concepts through discussions, practice, and hands-on experiences.
• Create a classroom environment focused on establishing confidence in math, strengthening mathematical skills, understanding concepts, creating and applying processes, and improving metacognition.
• Establish a framework which enables students to become strategic mathematical problem solvers and persevere in solving them.
• Work closely with the STEAM director to design and incorporate performance tasks which allow students to demonstrate their application of mathematical concepts in innovative ways.
• Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
• Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the Division Head.
• Collaborate with other members of the math department to support the curricular and strategic goals of the school.

• Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required
• Perform other duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Candidates with a Master’s Degree and/or state teaching license will be given preferential treatment.
• Minimum of 3 years teaching experience within the content area preferred.
