Columbus College of Art and Design is Hiring a Human Resources Manager Near Columbus, OH

SUMMARY: The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the HR department. This position will oversee the day-to-day HR operations and assist the AVP for Human Resources in creating and monitoring HR strategies and procedures across the college including leadership training. This position requires a combination of strategic thinking, hands-on HR expertise, and exceptional interpersonal skills. The HR Manager will be a trusted advisor to employees and leadership and manage the talent acquisition hiring process through full cycle which includes new hire onboarding.
RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes but is not limited to the following):
HR Operations
  • Oversees the day-to-day HR operations and payroll processes to ensure execution of objectives and procedures in coordination with the AVP for HR.
  • Provide support and guidance to the HR staff.
  • Provide support to employees and the HR staff in the absence of the AVP for HR.
  • Serves as the back up to the Payroll Administrator.
  • Ensure all company HR policies are applied consistently.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Partner with the AVP for HR to ensure strategic HR goals are aligned with college's initiatives.
  • Manages team projects to a timely completion.
  • Assist AVP for HR with salary market benchmarking analysis.
  • Collaborates with the AVP for HR and the HR Generalist for all employee events and engagement activities.
  • Serves on college committees as requested.
Talent Acquisition:
  • Manage and collaborate with the HR Generalist on staffing duties and the full recruitment cycle, from job posting to onboarding for faculty, staff, & youth & community learning instructors.
  • Assist hiring supervisors by implementing effective strategies for sourcing and attracting top talent.
  • Partner with the AVP for HR to ensure job descriptions are accurate and current.
Employee Relations:
  • Provide guidance and counsel to employees on HR policies and procedures.
  • Address employee concerns and conflicts in a fair and timely manner.
  • Partner with the HR Generalist to investigate employee issues and conflicts and bring them to resolution in consultation with the AVP for HR.
  • Participate in employee disciplinary meetings and terminations.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Training and Development:
  • Assist AVP for HR to identify training needs and develop training programs to enhance employee skills.
  • Participate in professional development and training events and initiates.
Benefits Administration:
  • Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance and retirement plans.
  • Address employee questions and issues related to benefits and retirement plans.
  • Manage all STD & LTD claims and track LOA/Paternity Leave payments.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations related to health and retirement plans.
  • Prepare and facilitate open enrollment sessions for employees.
HR Policies and Compliance:
  • Stay current with HR laws and regulations and ensure company compliance.
  • Conduct internal HR audits to maintain best practices.
  • Assist AVP for HR and the HR Generalist with updating policies and handbooks.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, technology, and developments in payroll, & HRIS providers.
Occupational Health, Safety, and Security:
  • Responsible for the administration and compliance of Workers' Compensation, including conducting accident investigations and maintaining contact with injured employees.
  • Responsible for submitting annual OSHA 300 logs
  • Performs other duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides direct supervision to the following staff members: Payroll Administrator, and the HRIS Administrator. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the college's policies and applicable laws. Responsible for performance reviews for direct reports.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of HR laws and regulations.
  • Experience with completing internal HR audits.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, or related software.
  • Ability to suggest improvements and a desire for continual learning and self-improvement.
REQUIREMENTS and EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field required
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience or experience in a leadership role in human resources.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is desirable.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in payroll processing.

  • The employee frequently is required to handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
