CANTON Public Schools is Hiring a Director of Food Services Near Canton, MA

The Canton Public Schools is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as the Director of Food Services for the upcoming school year beginning in July 2024. The Director of Food Serviceswill join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families and staff.

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Food Service oversees the entire food service operations for the district, including all program, personnel, menu, quality, and budgeting/financial needs and issues. The Director shall be responsible for supervising, coordinating, evaluating and directing the work duties of all food service personnel and the preparation and distribution of high quality nutritious means in a clean and safe environment. The Director manages the food service production and delivery system, including purchasing and inventory of food and supplies and ensures conformance with quality, nutrition, and productivity standards as well as local, state and federal guidelines.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  1. Oversees the entire food service operation for the district
  2. Responsible for the preparation of the monthly menus- providing high quality, affordable, nutritious feed that students will enjoy eating
  3. Provide nutritional information on all food items served
  4. Coordinate and collaborate with families and school nurses to provide appropriate meals for students with specific medical needs or restrictions
  5. Reviews current research to determine health and nutrition-related trends and food service management developments
  6. Develops innovative program changes as needed or necessaryKnowledgeable of and ability to comply with all requirements/mandates from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), US Department of Agriculture and the Board of Health
  7. Orders food items and supplies as needed, in a cost effective manner and in conformity with the federal and state procurement laws and local procurement policies and procedures
  8. Maintain inventories of food, supplies and equipment.Manages all food service facilities, including receiving all food and food supplies and distributing food supply and prepared meals between sites
  9. Examines all food service areas on a regular basis to determine needed repairs, maintenance or replacement.Assists the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations in developing and maintaining a long-term capital plan for food service equipment and facilities
  10. Prepares the annual budget for the food service department.Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations, prepare payroll and warrant
  11. Supervise, creates and maintains performance standards for all food service staff. Works with the District Personnel office in the recruitment, appointment, assignment, evaluation, discipline and dismissal of the food service department
  12. Arranges for substitutes within the food service department
  13. Collaborates with District or building administration in providing food services for special events as needed
  14. Member of the Wellness Advisory Committee
  15. Performs all other duties prescribed by the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations

Qualifications: 

  1. Bachelor’ Degree, from accredited college or university in a related field (i.e. Food & Nutrition, Food Service Management, Dietetics, Family and Consumer Science, Nutrition Education, Culinary Arts, Business or related), preferred
  2. Must hold a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
  3. Dietician license preferred
  4. “Serv-Safe” Certification Required
  5. Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience preferred
  6. Thorough knowledge of the administration, food, equipment, materials, methods and techniques relative to food service operations.
  7. Knowledge of basic spreadsheet, word processing, and point of sale software, as necessary for the efficient operation of the food service program
  8. Experience in scratch cookery and creative menu development
  9. Knowledge of large quantity, nutritious meal preparation and menu planning
  10. Experience completing accuare state, federal and local reports in a timely manner
  11. Employment-based on successful completion of CORI and fingerprinting background
  12. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations

SUPERVISES: All Food Service employees and Administrative Assistant

WORK YEAR: 205 days, including 183 school days plus 5 days before and 5 days after

COMPENSATION: Competitive salary with comparable districts
