Transportation Clerk

Location: Greensboro, NC

Position Type: Shipping & Domestic Transportation

Overview:

As a Transportation Clerk, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of transportation logistics within our organization. You will be responsible for assisting in the coordination of shipments, managing transportation documentation, and providing administrative support to the transportation department. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively are essential for success in this role.


Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing shipments, including bills of lading, shipping manifests, and delivery schedules.
  • Ensure all transportation documentation complies with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Assist in scheduling transportation services, including arranging pickups and deliveries with carriers and freight forwarders.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to ensure timely loading and unloading of shipments.
  • Serve as a point of contact for carriers, vendors, and internal stakeholders regarding transportation-related inquiries.
  • Communicate shipment status updates and any issues or delays to relevant parties promptly.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist in the reconciliation of discrepancies between physical inventory and transportation records.
  • Coordinate with warehouse personnel to ensure accurate stock counts and efficient movement of goods.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations governing transportation operations.
  • Assist in conducting audits and inspections to ensure compliance with transportation standards and procedures.
  • Identify and resolve transportation-related issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with team members to implement solutions and prevent recurrence of problems.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry.
  • Proficiency in using transportation management systems (TMS) and other relevant software applications.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with transportation regulations and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
