Job Overview:

As the Vice President of Software Engineering at ExploreLearning, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of K-12 math and science education. You will drive a dynamic team of software engineers and developers in creating cutting-edge educational software that meets the evolving needs of students, teachers, and school districts.

Job Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Define and execute the engineering department's strategic vision in alignment with company goals.
  • Head the development and implementation of scalable, robust software solutions that enhance our educational offerings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to innovate and deliver high-quality products.

Team Management & Development:

  • Build and mentor a high-performing team of software engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development of engineering staff.
  • Implement best practices in software engineering and ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Mentor engineering leaders to foster growth in business acumen and delivery proficiency.

Product Development & Innovation:

  • Drive the product development lifecycle, from concept to deployment and iteration.
  • Incorporate feedback from internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve our products.
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends in EdTech and software engineering, integrating new technologies and methodologies including AI as appropriate.

Technical Expertise & Problem-Solving:

  • Ensure the architecture and technology stack effectively support product scalability and performance.
  • Address technical challenges and lead problem-solving efforts in a fast-paced environment.
  • Manage the budget and resources of the engineering department efficiently, creating room for innovation.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build strong interdepartmental relationships and communications mechanisms that support informed, timely and cohesive action in pursuit of our purpose.
  • Collaborate internal and external stakeholders to understand market needs and align product development with educational standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with legal, compliance, and IT security teams to stay abreast of evolving regulations and lead the development and implementation of data security and privacy strategies across all software engineering efforts.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent study, skills and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in SaaS product development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing successful software development teams and delivering high-quality software products.
  • Deep understanding of current software engineering tools, practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in the EdTech sector, particularly with K-12 education, is highly desirable.
