JOB This is a summer position in the Recreation Division that provides personal care and recreational activities for children and youth with disabilities. The work involves providing participants with personal care and implementing activities with in a prescribed area of recreation. General supervision is provided by the Program Coordinator. Supervision of volunteer personnel is expected. Essential Job Functions Provides assistance and personal care (feeding, tolieting, clothing, and medications) to participants who are unable to do so independently. Demonstrates initiative and enthusiasm in providing recreational opportunities to participants. Interacts and communicates with staff when providing personal care to participants. Provides a safe environment for participants, staff, and volunteers. Communicates with coordinator and staff regarding activities, participants, and personnel issues. Other Job Duties (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit reasonably assigned duties) Maintains daily personal care records, writes daily medication notes, and completes other paperwork required by the Therapeutic Recreation Services. Participates in scheduled activities, such as swimming, boating, field trips, physical activities, etc. Reports any issues, problems, or concerns when they occur to the Program Coordinator. Performs any assigned duties that relate to successful operation of a therapeutic recreation summer camp program. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, (Pre-employment KSA applicable to essential job functions) Knowledge of -- Summer Camp programs. Providing appropriate personal care to individuals with disabilities. CPR and First Aid. Ability to -- Provide personal care to participants. Interact with staff in a professional manner with integrity and good judgment. Maintain a positive working relationship with parents, community members, and staff. Deal effectively with the public. Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.) Training and/or Education High School diploma or GED equivalent. Experience Three months experience working as a personal care provider and three months on the job training in nursing or as a personal care provider. Licenses or Certificates None Special Requirements Subject to background investigation. Physical Demands Medium to heavy physical effort required.
