Calvert County, MD is Hiring a (HRY) Maritime Coordinator Near Prince Frederick, MD
JOB Assists with the care for the Calvert Marine Museum’s Maritime History collections including archival collections and small craft vessels. The Maritime Coordinator is responsible for establishing regular maintenance of collections, monitoring supplies, supervising volunteers, and coordinating Maritime History collections with the Museum’s Special Events. This position reports to the Curator of Maritime History. Essential Job Functions Assists the Curator of Maritime History and Registrar in short- and long-term conservation and preservation of Maritime History collections. Assists in accessioning, cataloging, inventorying, storing, monitoring, and physical labeling of collection items (archival and small craft vessels). Researches, photographs, and catalogs artifacts and/or historic vessels. Assists with the retrieval of artifacts and/or historic vessels from around the community. Participates in the development and installation of exhibits for the Maritime History department. Supervises volunteers working in conjunction with Maritime History department staff. Prepares purchase orders and check requests; researches vendors, handles receipts and invoices for the Maritime History Department. Provides social media content related to activities for Maritime History department. Other Duties Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.) Knowledge of-- Methods and techniques of recording and storing museum artifacts and collections. Chesapeake Bay boat construction and design. Ability to-- Maintain records of museum collections and ensure their proper storage and preservation. Interpret blueprints and drawings. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Deal effectively with volunteers and the public. Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.) Training and/or Education: Bachelor’s degree in library science, history, museum studies, or related field. Experience: One year of experience in museum collections management. One year of experience in wooden boat collection management. Licenses or Certificates: Valid driver’s license. Special Requirements: Operation of a County-owned vehicle. Physical Demands: Requires long periods of standing, frequent walking indoors and outdoors, repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching; recurring lifting of objects up to 49 pounds. Unusual Demands: Work is mainly outside or in a building with no HVAC.
