California Western School of Law is Hiring a HR Generalist II Near San Diego, CA

Description

The HR Generalist II reports to the Senior Director of Human Resources and Operations. The Human Resources team provides a full range of support to faculty, staff, and student workers. California Western School of Law (CWSL) is looking for an experienced HR Generalist II (Generalist) to administer its benefit programs, including reporting, statistical analysis, reconciliations, audits, COBRA benefit administration, eligibility orientations, LOAs, workers compensation/safety, open enrollment activities, wellness programs, and compliance and legal issues. The Generalist will serve as the first point of contact for employee benefit questions and requests. The Generalist will also assist with various HR functions including recruiting, performance management, and student payroll.

Qualifications:

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office, Intermediate Excel, required
  • Experience and proven success administering benefits function, ideally within higher education.
  • Excellent communication skills. Provides written analyses, recommendations, and presentations to various audiences, including students, staff, and faculty.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state labor laws and regulations.
  • Highly effective analytical, problem solving, critical thinking and organizational and advanced computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle extremely sensitive or difficult situations / individuals effectively.
  • Experience within a higher education setting, a plus.

Duties:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related area and 4-6 years of experience in benefits administration. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. At least 1 (one) year of experience in recruiting and/or performance management preferred. Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now is a plus. Must be familiar with Federal/State laws such as ACA, FMLA, CFRA and CA Disability, required. Experience administering worker’s compensation a plus. Experience with LMS administration a plus. Experience in Higher Education preferred.

Benefits Administration

  • Administer benefit programs, including all reporting, statistical analysis, reconciliations, audits, COBRA benefits, eligibility orientations, LOAs, workers compensation, open enrollment activities, wellness programs, and compliance and legal issues.
  • Act as main contact for benefit questions and concerns.
  • Work with the Senior Director to review and process employee accommodation requests. 
  • Work with carriers and brokers on claim issues.
  • Conduct health plan billing reconciliations to ensure all enrollments are up to date. Contact benefit carriers for billing updates as needed. Follow-up with payroll to make deduction and Employer contribution updates in a timely manner. 
  • Develop the annual wellness programing to ensure it is within budget. Ensure all programming includes an educational piece. Responsible for monthly wellness newsletter. 
  • Assist with the administration of annual benefits’ renewal process, including participation in renewal negotiations. Plan and coordinate Open Enrollment meetings and events.
  • Review and approve benefit enrollments in HRIS. Review and approve qualifying life events. 
  • Complete annual ACA review for annual reporting.
  • Coordinate ongoing employee education for the 403(b) retirement plan.
  • Support Covid-19 contract tracing, quarantine, and workplace exclusion through performing exposure analysis.

Recruiting

  • Assist with recruiting as needed. Using LinkedIn Recruiter, identify and engage qualified candidates.
  •  Assist with the development of recruiting materials such as interview questions, presentation prompts, etc. 

Performance/Talent Management

  • Assist with the performance evaluation process, including system updates, goal assignment, and system training.
  • Administer the learning management system and implement ongoing engagement to increase utilization. 
  • Assist with the ongoing review and updating of job descriptions. 

Payroll 

  • Assist with student onboarding, timecard review and processing as needed. 
  • Assist with surveys, quarterly reporting, and federal work-study award tracking.
  • Respond to student inquiries, as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge required to assure compliance with federal, state, county regulations concerning all employment related actions, including COVID-19 compliance.

Compensation: $75,000 -$87,0000

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the law school reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the law school anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity and budget.
