Job Summary:

The Maintenance Manager is a key member of the plant leadership team and is responsible for building and leading a “Best in Class” Maintenance Team that is focused on Total Plant Operational Excellence. As such, the plant maintenance manager will be responsible to create an environment that promotes individual team member success, effective collaboration between departments and establishes a culture that always believes in getting better. The plant maintenance manager is the primary owner of all plant maintenance related KPIs including: safety, food safety, product quality, mechanical uptime, waste control and maintenance budgets. T

Essential Functions:

  • The development of all maintenance department staff; including identifying skill needs and training opportunities to ensure “Best in Class” maintenance department.
  • Ensure effective planning, scheduling and execution of all maintenance activities to allow for highest possible plant performance.
  • Full implementation and utilization of all CMMS activities.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance to all Federal, State, and Local requirements pertaining to UHT, ESL, Low Acid Aseptic Fluid Milk Bottling plant.
  • Oversee development, implementation, training and long-term adherence to meet Plant Maintenance Team owned KPI’s in the following areas:
    • Team Member Safety
    • Plant Food Safety & Plant Product Quality
    • Team Member Job Satisfaction and Team Member Development
    • Job Specific Standardized Work and associated Training
    • Daily Maintenance Team Direction Setting Meetings
    • OEE and Maintenance Controlled Uptime
    • Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action
    • Maintenance Owned Costs per Unit
    • PM Compliance & CMMS Utilization
    • Labor & Overtime Budgets
    • Parts on Hand & Waiting on Parts
    • Parts Purchasing & Outside Services Budgets
    • Wastewater Systems and Compliance
    • Site Facilities and Utilities Uptime
    • Maintenance Team Waste Control
    • Cost Savings Identification & Cost Savings Justification
  • Actively support and promote a plant culture that believes in always getting better.
  • Ensure effective collaboration and positive teamwork between all departments.
  • Lead by example with integrity and a commitment to always do it right.
  • Must always look forward to identify and prevent potential failure modes.
  • Identify and share new technologies, new equipment and new processes that will continue to maintain VNB’s place as the industry leader.
  • Identify when your support is needed by members of your team or other plant teams (at all hours) and be present to give support when needed.
  • Always represent VNB in a positive manner to vendors, contractors, team members, visitors, etc.
  • Minimum of 10 years combined experience working in supervisory and or managerial roles in an ESL and/or low acid aseptic bottling operation or equivalent preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent understanding and demonstrated ability to comply with OSHA requirements.
  • High level understanding of UHT, ESL and Aseptic processing of low acid products.
  • Excellent working knowledge or PLCS, Process Controls and Process Automation.
  • History of developing new processes, implementing new processes and training team members on new processes.
  • Working knowledge of all steam, electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical equipment found in food manufacturing plants.
  • Ability to effectively problem solve.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels inside and outside of the organization
  • Excellent leadership skills and a desire to serve others

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline preferred – may substitute 10 years of work experience in a production setting involving consumer packaging goods, electronics, instrumentation, refrigeration, electrical, and general mechanical with at least five years of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years combined experience working in supervisory and or managerial roles in an ESL and/or low acid aseptic bottling operation or equivalent preferred.

Language Skills

English is required as the spoken language. A well-modulated tonal volume is required with excellent diction skills needed.

Reasoning Ability

Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the ability to discern when issues may require input from levels of authority within the corporation.

Physical Demands

Sitting/Standing/Walking: Stands and walks throughout shift. Walks on uneven concrete and tiles surfaces. Sits frequently to answer calls, fill out paperwork, attend meetings, and answer emails.

Lifting/Carrying: Lifts up to 75 pounds. Two or more employees complete lifts of greater than 75 pounds.

Pushing/Pulling: Frequently pushes/pulls while using mechanic tools and equipment.

Bending/Stooping: Both are done regularly during the course of a workday.

Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling: Frequent squatting and kneeling. Crawling is done occasionally specifically when repairing equipment.

Twisting/Turning: Occasional twisting and turning.

Climbing/Balancing: Climbing and balancing is required. Involved in the inspection of processing equipment, which could involve climbing vertical ladders or over 100 steps to the top of the dryers or evaporators.

Reaching: Frequently reaching from floor level to shoulder level.

Grasping/Manipulating: Grasping and manipulating of papers, objects, and equipment will be required. Ability to keyboard for data input will be required on an ongoing basis.
