San FranciscoThe Visual Designer produces designed communications and digital graphics that are compelling, visually striking, and exemplify CCA's visual brand identity. Reporting to the Design Director, this position creates design solutions that prioritize the user experience and bring CCA's creative and educational mission to life.
The Visual Designer is a member of CCA's Marketing and Communications team, an in-house creative and strategic group that partners with colleagues across the college to inform and inspire audiences by sharing compelling stories about CCA's vibrant community of students, faculty, and alumni. The Designer will be an active participant in the department's and the college's efforts to identify and dismantle structural inequities and promote anti-racism, equity, inclusion, and belonging at CCA and in our society. The successful candidate will contribute to the diversity of personal and professional perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences that support these efforts.
This is a staff regular position that has temporary funding to be full-time capacity and will adjust to part-time status on or before June 30, 2024.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:Design - 75%- Design original and derivative digital and print graphics and materials within the CCA brand
- Concept and produce assets for cca.edu, create HTML email templates and components, dynamic landing pages, and motion graphics
- Incorporate UI/UX best practices to enhance user experience and accessibility
- Design user flows, wireframes, or screen mockups using prototyping tools
- Conceptualize and build dynamic web components for cca.edu
- Design digital advertising and motion graphics for social media and other advertising channels
- Responsible for completing assigned project tasks that range from ideation through final design
- Effectively communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale to stakeholders
- Work collaboratively with team members and partners to iterate designs through a process of feedback and critique
Production - 25%- Troubleshoot and correct files (edit, optimize, crop) and prepare them for both print and digital publishing
- Implement approved designs to build a variety of print and digital deliverables
- Build dynamic, interactive stories for cca.edu using a third-party web design platform (vev.design)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor's degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Visual Design, or other relevant major (candidates with equivalent practical experience will also be considered)
- 2-4 years professional graphic/visual design experience
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (especially InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects) and UX design tools (Figma, HTML5, etc.)
- Self-starter capable of working both independently and as a member of a collaborative team
- Thrives in a work environment that requires strong problem-solving skills, solid visual design skills
- Appreciation for and interest in the disciplines CCA teaches (art, design, architecture, and writing) and enthusiasm for creating timely, high quality, and visually compelling work to further the college's mission
- Strong knowledge of web design considerations (across platforms, browsers, user interactions, and responsiveness)
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage a number of competing priorities at once
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, internally and externally
Preferred Qualifications- Solid knowledge of UI, UX, and web standards and trends
- Experience using G Suite applications for file sharing and communication
- Experience creating presentations using Google Slides and Keynote
- Familiarity with production requirements and working with outside vendors; i.e. printers, exhibit/signage vendors, other firms/agencies
- Ability to prepare, preflight, and proof files for print, including exporting and packing files for printers
- Experience using project-management and digital-asset-management systems (we use Asana and Bynder, respectively)
- Basic coding knowledge to work hand-in-hand with development team
- Strong presentation skills and experience creating and presenting concepts to clients

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:- The compensation for the position is $38.46 per hour.

CCA covers an average of 91% of the medical plan cost for the employee only and an average of 82% for employees with dependents. POSITION DETAILS:- CCA considers a full-time work week to be 37.5 hours per week.
