Bunker Hill Community College is Hiring a Part time Academic Advisor-Workforce & Economic Development (non-benefited) - Bunker Hill Community College Near Boston, MA

Job Description:

Advising & LifeMap is seeking one (1) professional to assist with providing continuous web/live advising for students at Bunker Hill Community College. As part of a small team working on the Career Pathways Impact Project at BHCC, this role will focus on providing career planning services to non-degree seeking students with a focus on the English Language Learners engaged with the college's Division of Workforce and Economic Development programming. The advisor will use a holistic student support model that includes proactive advising to identify student needs, address student challenges and provide appropriate services and referrals, in an effort to enhance student success and retention.

Specific Duties:

Support outreach to students at transition points including initial engagement, BHCC matriculation, and career pathway planning.

Employ a Proactive Model of Advising with the goal of enabling students to make informed and appropriate decisions regarding their academic and career pathways.

Learn the ELL pathway options and all aspects of the ELL programs offered through different divisions' ad guide students according to their own goals and abilities.

Assist students in creating a personalized career plan using existing resources relevant to prior experience, skill set, interests, and future goals. As part of the Career Pathway Impact Project team, provide feedback on tools and contribute to development of new career advising processes.

Refer students to individual faculty/program coordinators regarding course and program content as necessary.

Utilize Gecko software to provide academic counseling to students on relevant enrollment and academic issues; make appropriate referrals to institutional support services.

Assess needs to act as a liaison by providing referrals to appropriate offices and services when needed.

Requirements:

* Two- or four-year degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or a closely related field or equivalent experience.

* Two (2) years of experience and/or training involving career advisement, academic advisement, career development, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

* Proficiency in student information systems and technology as well as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

* Excellent, demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

* Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population. ELL instruction or advisement experience preferred

* Demonstrate and possess a strong understanding of cultural competency and how to communicate effectively to different audiences.

* Ability to work evenings or weekends on occasion to meet student scheduling needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Ability to work Saturdays during peak registration periods.

* Experience using live chat software.

* Experience working in a community college.

* Written and spoken proficiency in more than one language.

Additional Information:

Salary: $32.00 hourly (20.00) hours per week with prorated benefits) in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement.

* This is a grant-supported position funded until December of 2023.
