DESCRIPTION

This Limited Part Time position is grant-funded and is contingent upon continuation of the grant. This position will be located at our Boston site at 122 Arlington Street. The CHW Instructor will instruct students according to the curriculum designed to assist students to build knowledge and clinical skills aimed to complete the CHW program. The instructor must possess the ability to work with students from different socioeconomic and educational backgrounds. The instructor will teach 10 hours/week for 10 weeks of classroom instruction. The teacher is responsible for establishing a positive and welcoming classroom environment, where all students have the ability to learn.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with other employees, clients, and the public.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and outside organizations.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement daily lessons based on the class' level, goal, and assigned curriculum
  • Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and welcomes all students
  • Integrate technology into instruction practices and classroom activities for students
  • Collect and track student attendance and testing data
  • Maintain timely and accurate online student records and reports as required
  • Assess learners' prior knowledge, learning needs, and college and career readiness goals
  • Set learning goals and a course of study.
  • Monitor learning through summative and formative assessment data
  • Design instruction to build learners' technology and digital media literacy skills
  • Communicate high expectations of learners and motivate them to persist to meet their goals
  • Model an understanding of diversity
  • Possess content area knowledge and teaching skills required for subjects and populations taught
  • Participate in professional development networks and learning communities
  • Participate in mandatory training/coursework:

    Title IX and Sexual Misconduct
    Sexual Harassment and Non-Discrimination
    Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
    FERPA
    Municipal Ethics Law

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Requirements: A minimum of one year to two years of advising experience, knowledge of current student development theory and research, willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team, and a proven ability to create a safe and welcoming environment for students from diverse backgrounds are all requirements of this position. Experience working with non-traditional students is strongly preferred. Some evening and occasional weekend hours may be required in additional to travel to our Boston center. The incumbent will also display:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as other office software applications
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate and build working relationships with faculty and staff
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong commitment to the delivery of student-centered academic advising

Qualifications:

The CHW Instructor will have the following experience and attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or social work
  • Prior teaching, tutoring, or classroom experience
  • Knowledge of adult learner characteristics
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Experience:

Previous teaching experience in the CHW programs, preferred.
