Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Controller at Buffalo City Mission is the heartbeat of our financial world, ensuring our numbers are not just accurate, but meaningful and timely. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A representative summary of tasks to be performed is provided below. The employee may be asked to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this description. The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the mission, values, and operating principles of the Buffalo City Mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead all day-to-day financial operations of a budget of $10 million and two entities and supervise a team of two accounting staff members including functional responsibility over aligned accounting/ledgers, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, intercompany flows, and monthly close.
  • Supervise end-of-month close and reconciliation process, as well as the production and dissemination of timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Participate in and facilitate the annual budget planning process.
  • Manage and handle the financial operations so that they produce clean audits; and provide timely, accurate, and compliant.
  • Partner closely with and provide support to the Executive Team and Board.
  • Ensure and improve accounting workflows and system utilization.
  • Facilitate the optimum utilization of the new accounting software system-oracle NetSuite and integration with other systems and operations.
  • Coordinate audit activities.

REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the pastoral ministry, management, counseling, or related discipline
  • Seven years’ experience in management or ministry leadership with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or equivalent and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience in or with complex non-profits.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience performing Controllership functions and developing accounting staff.
  • Familiarity with GAAP.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various accounting systems and integration of accounting flows and systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills with an orientation to drive results.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills and ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • Personal qualities and commitment to integrity, initiative, resilience, and AFC’s mission.
  • In the midst of a mature walk with Jesus Christ and able to articulate belief.

Payment:

At Buffalo City Mission, the compensation for this role is between $80,000 to $100,000 annually, enriched by the invaluable moral and spiritual rewards that accompany our charitable efforts.
