POSITION SUMMARY:

Bryant & Stratton College Program Directors (PDs) perform both administrative and instructional duties. As administrators, PDs support the College mission and vision by overseeing the day-to-day management of their program areas. They are responsible for coaching and mentoring instructors within their program area as related to classroom methodology and delivery. PDs are also responsible for providing guidance to Program Administrators (PAs), Subject-area Coordinators (SACs), and subject-area instructors and for ensuring that all required record keeping and reporting are completed in a timely and accurate manner. As instructors, PDs follow the position description for Faculty Instructor. Program Directors will be responsible for the supervision and administration of up to three programs. In addition, Program Directors will teach classes each semester. They will follow a 40-hour work week and are classified as exempt employees. PDs follow the functional manager vacation schedule.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:

Serve as academic leader of one or more program or subject areas.

    • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of assigned fields as evidenced by active participation in professional organizations, maintenance of current scholarly collection of resources (through virtual library), and engagement in on-going dialogue with peer PDs, program faculty, and career services departments.
    • Participate in curriculum monitoring and development process by providing faculty feedback to the system-level curriculum team and by participating in program-specific curriculum development activities led by the system-level curriculum team.
    • Organize and monitor subject-specific campus-wide initiatives and activities for students, faculty, and where appropriate, career services.
    • Collect and review beginning- and end-of-term paperwork for purposes of quality assurance and accuracy. Follow up with coaching as needed for continual improvement with specific attention to integrating the College’s rigor standards, assuring multiple opportunities for feedback (PD to faculty and faculty to student), and assuring the quality of major assessments.
    • Assist in the coordination and submission of Course Review materials and complete follow-up meetings with faculty.
    • Participate through recommendations to the campus library committee in library collection development to support program content and assist subject-area faculty in the use of scholarly works in course material and/or assignments.
    • Work with Academic advisor(s) to employ intervention strategies to assist students in achieving maximum benefit from their educational experience.
    • Participate along with Internship faculty and career services representative (if appropriate) in review of subject-area student portfolios in the students’ final term prior to graduation.
    • Consult with Career Services on internship sites and student placements to assure quality experience at internship sites.
    • Participate (as required) as a member of the academic and/or campus management team(s).
    • Participate in campus-based and community-related activities as a representative of subject-area leadership and the College.
    • Administer Guest Speakers for core subject matter classes. Work with Career Servies to establish viable internship sites and Business to Business connections.

Manage the hiring, development, evaluation, and termination of subject-area instructors under the direction of the Dean of Instruction.

    • Uphold and evaluate faculty credential requirements as part of the hiring and scheduling processes; adjust where needed.
    • Ensure that all subject-area instructors adhere to the administrative and classroom delivery duties and requirements as outlined in the job description for Instructional Associates.
    • Formally and informally evaluate and coach faculty with respect to department expectations, course development, course delivery, assessment development, and rigor. Participate under the direction of the Dean of Instruction in annual performance reviews for subject-area instructors.

Assist the Dean of Instruction and faculty coach in on-going faculty development and faculty development planning and delivery.

    • Provide on-going development opportunities for subject-area instructors to aid in their continuous improvement and growth.
    • Perform developmental and evaluative classroom observations, facilitate pre- and post-observation discussions, and collaborate with faculty in creation of developmental plans. Monitor progress toward and completion of action plans.
    • Lead instructional delivery and methodology training (along with peer PDs) under the supervision of the Dean.
    • Assist the Dean in increasing participation of both full- and part-time faculty in developing and maintaining the Professional Teaching Portfolio to affect the quality of teaching and learning in their program area.
    • Conduct regular meetings with subject-area instructors. Record and save minutes.
      • Provide subject-specific training for instructors on an as-needed basis to communicate changes in instructional emphases, curriculum, technology, etc. Provide program and/or course retention and graduation analysis.

Education:

Master’s Degree (must be in relevant discipline as defined by Policy 035 if teaching is included in essential position function)

Experience:

  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Workplace experience in field related to the program(s) of study the PD oversees preferred
  • Supervisory and professional development experience preferred

EXEMPT POSITION SALARY RANGE:

$58,500 - $61,000

Please note that the compensation information is a good faith estimate of the base pay for this position. The selected candidate’s actual base pay for this role will take into account a wide range of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. At Bryant & Stratton College, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Information about the total compensation package for this position will be provided during the interview process.
