Data Governance Specialist

Pay: $40-45/hr. depending on experience

12 month contract

Hybrid Schedule: must be willing to come on-site 3 days per week (Indianapolis, IN)

Job Description:

As a Data Governance Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality, integrity and security of our organization’s data assets. This position requires a strong understanding of data governance principles, data management processes, and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and enforce data governance policies, procedures, and standards.

Responsibilities:

Data Governance Framework:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance framework aligned with organization goals and industry best practices.
• Define data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure consistent and effective data management.

Data Quality Management:

• Establish data quality standards and monitor data quality across the organization.
• Collaborate with business units to define data quality metrics and implement processes to address data quality issues.

Metadata Management:

• Implement metadata management processes to capture and maintain metadata for critical data assets.
• Work with stakeholders to define metadata standards and ensure compliance.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

• Collaborate with business units, IT teams, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and challenges.
• Act as a liaison between business and technical teams to facilitate effective communication and understanding.

Data Stewardship:

• Define and assign data stewardship responsibilities to individuals across the organization.
• Provide training and support to data stewards to ensure adherence to data governance policies.

Change Management:

• Facilitates change management processes related to data governance initiatives.
• Communicate changes, updates, and the benefits of data governance to all relevant stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement:

• Monitor the effectiveness of data governance initiatives and recommend improvements.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices to enhance the organization’s data governance capabilities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (e.g., Information Management, Computer Science, Business).
• Proven experience in data governance, data management, or related roles.
• Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality, and metadata management.
• Familiarity with data protection regulations and compliance standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with data governance tools and technologies is a plus.
