Job Description:

The Public Schools of Brookline seeks a Middle School ELA/Social Studies Teacher. We are searching for a dynamic and passionate educator dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, delivering engaging and rigorous instruction that meets the diverse needs of our students. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active participation, critical thinking, and collaboration among students.
  • Developing and implementing engaging and rigorous lessons in either English Language Arts or Social Studies, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies and resources.
  • Differentiating instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and interests of students and provide appropriate scaffolding and support as needed.
  • Utilizing a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and resources to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Implementing effective assessment strategies to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues through clear communication and collaboration.
  • Actively participating in professional development opportunities, department meetings, and school-wide initiatives to continuously improve teaching practices and contribute to a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Performing other duties as directed by school leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge about middle level learning and the developmental needs of adolescents
  • Strong foundation in student-centered pedagogy
  • Strong content knowledge and pedagogical skills in English Language Arts and Social Studies.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and assess learning using a variety of methods
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Reflective practitioner with a growth mindset and a willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of students and the school community.
  • Massachusetts DESE teacher certification in Middle School Humanities (5-8) or in English (5-12) and History/Social Science (5-12)
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • SEI endorsement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Previous experience teaching middle school students

Reports To:

The Middle School ELA/Social Studies Teacher will report to the school building principal.
