Brookline Bank is Hiring a Credit Risk Solutions Manager - Boston Near Boston, MA

Principal Objective

This role will play a pivotal role in the execution of Brookline Bancorp’s credit risk monitoring, analysis, and reporting programs. The role is ideally suited for a candidate who combines thought leadership with a desire to be hands on in expanding and developing the Bancorp’s credit risk management capabilities as a result of it transitioning to a regional banking organization (RBO). The role requires experience in commercial banking with demonstrated expertise in credit risk management principles, practical knowledge of commercial lending, and proficiency with data, systems, models, and reporting tools. The role will encompass a wide range of work areas including Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses, Stress Testing, credit monitoring programs, regulatory exams, external audit, and engagement with the Board of Directors.

A successful applicant will be a solutions driven, intellectually curious, self-starter who is proficient in accomplishing concurrent and diverse objectives with minimal direction and with support of the analyst team. This individual should possess demonstrated analytical ability while consistently demonstrating a high degree of flexibility, teamwork, efficiency, and commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. The applicant will have opportunities to lead analysts on various projects across credit risk management, and the work product of this position are highly visible, and include presentations to the Chief Credit Officer, Executive Management, and Board of Directors. This necessitates attention to detail and quality, and skill in anticipating and communicating information in the most effective, useful, and appropriate form for the audience.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the Bank’s risk identification programs by managing various monitoring programs, analytical studies to identify emerging risk factors, and evaluation of market trends.
  • Participate in department initiatives under the guidance of the Director of Analytics and/or the Senior Credit Officer. For example: develop of MIS reporting, monitoring of specific portfolios, assessing emerging risks, identifying systemic issues, improvement of processes.
  • Support the Bank’s ACL and stress testing processes developing key assumptions, identifying key risks, and providing effective challenge over the process.
  • Lead day-to-day communication with regulators and external auditors on credit risk related topics.
  • Manage analysts in execution of tasks, while also developing their careers and skill-sets.
  • Represent Credit Risk Management in collaboration with partner departments within the bank (e.g. Finance, Commercial Lending, etc.) and with the external constituents (e.g., auditors, regulators, etc.).


Job Specifications (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required)

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master degree is preferred.
  • 7-15 years of financial analysis or related credit work at a financial institution; preferably with experience in Credit Risk Management, Credit Administration, Lending, Loan Review, Loan Operations, or other applicable relevant experience.
  • Experience working with cross functional teams
  • Experience working with regulators and/or external auditors is a plus.
  • Microsoft Excel and Access or similar database program (advanced user); Word and PowerPoint (basic user).
  • Familiarity with Jack Henry loan accounting system and SQL programming are a plus.
  • Ability to think both conceptually and concretely.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and quality are essential.
