Your Charter

As an Enterprise Data Developer, you will work under the guidance of the Director of Enterprise Reporting to bolster the overarching reporting strategy and operations at the Broad Institute. Your primary responsibilities will involve crafting, implementing, and maintaining an Enterprise Reporting framework and generating reports. Collaborating closely with the Director and fellow team members, you will construct robust database structures optimized for swift data retrieval and storage to support enterprise reporting needs.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of the SQL programming language to write complex queries that can retrieve, manipulate, or update data

  • Experience optimizing large complicated SQL statements

  • Strong Knowledge of Database Management Systems (DBMS)

  • Previous experience with modern relational databases (AWS, GCP, Snowflake)

  • Knowledge of best practices when dealing with relational databases

  • Analyzes, assesses and tests data controls and data systems to ensure quality and risk compliance standards are met.

  • Supports and interacts with various functional areas on multi-domain remediation efforts.

  • Leverages domain expertise and data / business / process analysis to inform and support solution design

  • Capable of troubleshooting common database issues

  • Familiar with tools that can aid with profiling server resource usage and optimizing it

  • Understanding of code versioning tools such as Github

Preferred Coding Skills:

  • Experience with ANSI SQL required

  • Experience with GitHub preferred

  • Experience with dbt preferred

Capabilities:

  • Develops tools and processes used to maintain a common, organization-wide data standard.

  • Develop fast and performant database queries

  • Demonstrates an understanding of how data sets and queries can relate to business processes

  • Able to understand different data schemas, e.g. Star, Snowflake, etc.

  • Follows best database design and development practices

  • Stays up-to-date with all relevant data security procedures and complies with all applicable data protection legislation.

  • Experience creating technical and end-user documentation

  • Technically curious and focused on iterative improvements

  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Able to effectively communicate with various stakeholders, including product managers, designers, and business analysts, to align the database with organizational requirements.

Data Integrity & Reporting:

  • Design and develop reports utilizing a variety of tools including ANSI SQL and dbt

  • Assist staff with creation of queries to support their day to day responsibilities, as well as create adhoc reports, as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred but not required

  • 2 years development experience

  • Previous experience as a report developer preferred

  • Solid functional knowledge and understanding of IT processes and data, including workflows

  • Effectively manage time and prioritize projects to meet established deadlines

  • Work independently as well as cooperatively in a team environment; communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, with all levels of the organization

  • Creative approach to solving problems
