Clinical Technology Educator

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Clinical Technology Educator will be responsible for the development, preparing, implementation, and monitoring of education and staff competency for various patient-care based technologies supported by the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

S/he will identify existing skills gaps, formulate corresponding training needs and objectives, and execute needed training by providing presentations, workshops, or technology-supported training. The well qualified candidate will have in-depth knowledge of, and a clinical and technical aptitude for, patient-care technologies. They should have excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, coordinates, and executes continuing education for various patient-care based technologies.
  • In coordination with the Manager of Quality, Safety, Education & Training and the appropriate background the candidate may implement the training
  • Provides expertise, direction, and is responsible for the development of goals and objectives for the overall education program.
  • Oversees orientation process for new hires of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Develops and maintains staff orientation program for experienced and/or new hires.
  • Identifies learning needs of BME staff and develops and implements individualized education plans
  • Annually obtains input from department leadership for both individualized and team education plans.
  • Develop, review and/or update, and implement annual Biomedical Engineering staff competencies for job roles as defined by manager.
  • Prepares BME staff for manufacturer training when certification/recertification required.
  • Available as a resource to guide, mentor, or provide information and/or education on patient-based technologies supported by Biomedical Engineering
  • In collaboration with the departments database analyst, is responsible for the implementation and accuracy of the departments training competency database.
  • Utilizes tracking system to identify staff skills and internal and external training efforts to meet regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO and DPH).
  • Maintains knowledge and proficiency through relevant education of complex patient-care based technologies.
  • Strong organizational skills including, but not limited to:
  • Preparing/Organizing materials required for education sessions
  • Tracking attendance during all education sessions
  • Performs other duties, as necessary.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • BS degree required; Degree in Biomedical Engineering preferred.
    • Experience with patient-care based technologies.
    • Experience in training and evaluation methods.

    SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

    • Expertise in leading and developing education programs
    • Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
    • Ability to teach effectively.
    • Calm and caring demeanor.
    • Ability to assess employee competencies.

    • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Computer skills, i.e., word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
    • Ability to develop and implement actionable processes independently.
    • Ability to provide support, mentor, direction and development to staff.
    • Takes initiative and ability to make decisions independently; must have good judgment skills, strong. organizational skills and able to take initiative, demonstrate sensitivity and tact.
    • Knowledge of computer systems or ability to quickly learn them and develop domain expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS degree required; Degree in Biomedical Engineering preferred.
