BR is Hiring a Remote Communications Manager

Organization: The Partnership Project
Title:Communications Manager
Position type: Full-time
Start date: ASAP
Location: Remote, anywhere in the United States. See note below for more details.
Salary: $90,000 - $100,000

ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP PROJECT

The Partnership Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is a coalition of environmental organizations focused on supporting the collaborative efforts of the environmental community. Our programs focus on critical environmental issues including climate change, emissions reduction, and environmental and climate justice.

The Auto Accountability Campaign is a program of the Partnership Project.

CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW:

The Auto Accountability Campaign is focused on phasing out internal combustion engines (ICE) from our transportation systems worldwide. The need to change the world's current vehicle fleet to 100% zero-emission is necessary to combat climate change. Transportation is quickly becoming the leading source of carbon pollution in large parts of the world, making up about a quarter of worldwide carbon dioxide emissions. To drive companies and governments towards a 100% emission future, the Auto Accountability Campaign coordinates accountability campaigns pointed at light- and heavy-duty automakers to open political windows and build public support for bold transportation policy. This campaign focuses on pushing auto/truck manufacturers to make the switch to electric transportation as quickly as possible. The campaign also provides support, communications strategies, expertise and guidance to various NGOs and groups across the world.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Auto Accountability Campaign seeks a Communications Manager to manage and implement strategic communications campaigns to aid in the Campaign's goal of phasing out ICE vehicles. This role is ideal for a communications professional who is deeply passionate about working to protect our environment and sustain it for future generations. The Communications Manager will report to the campaign director and work in coordination with two senior campaigners and multiple public affairs firms.

Note: This position is fully remote within the United States, in any time zone, with some travel. Candidates must have the flexibility for meetings and work obligations that sometimes occur in the early mornings and late evenings, to accommodate our team members and stakeholders across different time zones.

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the campaign director to develop campaign strategy and tactics
  • Work with multiple groups and communications firms to identify media opportunities and implement communications plans, rapid response communications, and strategies to promote auto accountability and electric vehicle activities in print, broadcast, and digital mediums
  • Train and coach staff and volunteers in media skills
  • Implement and facilitate coalition strategies and tactics, while also looking for ways to raise up the work of coalition members
  • Proactively look for ways to grow the coalition membership and increase member engagement
  • Represent the coalition in advocacy forums, conferences, and other relevant venues and help manage coalition retreats and events, when applicable
  • Build and maintain exceptional professional relationships with other NGOs
  • Manage communications firms and contractors
  • Pitch and maintain relationships with journalists to promote coalition activities as necessary

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4-6 years of experience with campaign communications
  • Working knowledge of transportation, corporate accountability, and/or climate issues strongly preferred
  • Team player who works well with others and can manage multiple projects, including in urgent situations
  • Ability to manage multiple contractors and communication firms
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and leverage strong working relationships with key decision-makers, partners, and diverse stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including excellent writing and editing skills, persuasive communication, and public presentation and/or meeting facilitation skills
  • Competency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Appreciation for digital advocacy, grassroots organizing, and movement building
  • Willing to take initiative, exercise good judgment, and use diplomacy and discretion
  • Previous experience with an issue campaign

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The annual salary for this position will be between $90,000 and $100,000, depending on experience in this role and field. We offer an excellent benefits package which includes 100% employer paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance, unlimited paid time off, monthly technology stipend, and retirement contributions through 401k and Roth plans.
