Middle School Music Teacher

A full-time, competitively paid teaching position at a first-rate college preparatory school for boys. 

Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia seeks a Middle School Music Teacher charged with developing young musicians and fostering within them an appreciation for and understanding of the broad influences and contexts of music as well as the standards of music performance. The teacher will deliver rigorous, standards-aligned lessons that engage students in music. The teacher will promote and nurture the education of students by planning and tailoring courses of study; monitoring, assisting with, and correcting academic and artistic efforts; and providing a safe environment conducive to learning and character development. The teacher will create opportunities for students to showcase their talents in class as well as in the school and broader communities. 

The teacher will perform the following duties:

• Plan, develop, and deliver a college preparatory curriculum that is aligned with PA Common Core standards and best practices. 
• Assess students regularly and use data to drive instruction as well as to provide remediation and enrichment based on individual student need and ability. 
• Communicate students’ progress toward realizing academic goals, partnering with parents and school personnel to provide instructional and emotional support and resources.
• Build a classroom environment that is welcoming, academic, joyful, and safe. 
• Commit to the school’s extended day structure, serving students outside of the regular school day, and teaching in the Saturday School and summer academy programs. 
• Sponsor extracurricular activities as part of the school’s award-winning Leadership Academy.
• Enforce the Student Code of Conduct and serve as a culture keeper of the Boys’ Latin mission.

• Bachelor’s degree and PA state certification (preferred). 

Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia prepares boys for success in college and beyond. Founded in 2007 to address the dearth of quality educational opportunities for boys in Philadelphia, Boys’ Latin provides a world-class college preparatory education to 800 students in grades six through 12. As a public charter school there are no admissions requirements and students enroll by randomized lottery.
