Job Description
TITLE: Culinary Program Coordinator
PROFILE SOURCE: Program Professional
REPORTS TO: Director of Education and Program Development
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $15-$22 per hour
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Culinary Program Coordinator is responsible for planning implementation, and active supervision of culinary activities within the Boys & Girls Club. Serving as a positive role model for Club members ages 5 to 16, the Culinary Program Coordinator will actively engage youth in culinary experiences, as well as provide guidance and support to promote Boys & Girls Clubs of America priority outcomes of Academic Success, Good Character, Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles.
KEY ROLES & ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare Youth for Culinary Success
· Lead the implementation of culinary activities designed to promote and enhance the culinary skills, creativity, and healthy habits of Club members aged 5-18.
· Serve as a positive culinary role model, displaying a high level of culinary expertise, maturity, and professionalism.
Health and Safety
· Ensure a healthy and safe culinary environment, actively supervising members in all culinary activities.
· Manage culinary areas and equipment, ensuring a safe and productive Club culinary environment.
Grant Implementation
· Ensure the successful delivery of any grant-funded culinary programs, aligning with BGCA priorities and directions from supervisors.
Culinary Program Operations
· Establish positive, respectful professional relationships with Club staff, volunteers, and members.
· Plan and organize weekly culinary club activities, overseeing equipment and resources for a well-managed culinary club.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Understand and complete any necessary paperwork related to culinary activities, such as ingredient lists, activity plans, and attendance records.
· Follow designated clock-in and clock-out procedures.
· Take attendance for culinary activities as instructed.
· Assume other culinary-related duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS
· Internal: Maintain close contact with Club staff, Club members, and supervisor to exchange information, discuss culinary issues, interpret guidelines/instructions, and advise/counsel.
· External: Represent Boys & Girls Club as a culinary ambassador in the community.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
· College credit hours towards a degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, or a related field preferred, and/or equivalent culinary experience.
· Minimum of two years of culinary experience, including working with youth and supervising volunteers preferred.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate above-average personal initiative.
· Patience and a strong desire to impart culinary knowledge and skills to those who are disadvantaged or have social needs in an unbiased manner.
· Maintain an excellent work attitude.
· Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
· Demonstrate tact, insight, and leadership skills in the culinary context.
· Effective listening skills and the ability to calmly handle crisis situations.
· Motivate youth and manage behavior problems in a culinary context.
· Work successfully with culturally diverse staff and club members.
· Show respect toward members and their families.
· Have or be willing to obtain a Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification.
· Have or be willing to obtain a Class E Driver’s License.
