Bourke Street Bakery is Hiring a Barista Near Jersey, NJ

Position Overview: We are seeking a versatile and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a barista and counterhand at our bakery café. This role involves preparing and serving coffee beverages while also providing exceptional customer service at the bakery counter. The ideal candidate will be passionate about coffee and baked goods, possess excellent communication skills, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve a variety of coffee beverages, including espresso, latte, cappuccino, and drip coffee, according to company standards.
  • Greet customers with a warm and welcoming attitude at the bakery counter, providing assistance and answering any questions they may have about our products.
  • Take customer orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring order accuracy and timeliness for both coffee and bakery items.
  • Assist customers in selecting bakery items, offering recommendations and providing information about ingredients and allergens.
  • Operate espresso machines, coffee grinders, and other equipment proficiently and safely.
  • Package bakery items neatly and securely for takeout orders, ensuring presentation meets company standards.
  • Operate cash register and handle cash transactions accurately, processing payments and providing change as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the coffee bar and bakery counter, including restocking baked goods and cleaning surfaces regularly.
  • Restock coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other supplies as needed.
  • Monitor inventory levels of baked goods and inform management of any shortages or replenishment needs.
  • Follow proper food safety and sanitation procedures at all times, including maintaining proper temperature controls for perishable items.
  • Assist in opening and closing duties, including setting up the coffee bar and bakery counter and cleaning equipment and work areas.
  • Collaborate with bakery and café staff to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow, communicating any customer feedback or special requests.
  • Stay updated on coffee and bakery products, promotions, and specials to effectively upsell and cross-sell to customers.
  • Uphold company policies and standards regarding quality, cleanliness, and customer service.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a barista or in customer service, preferably in a bakery or café setting.
  • Strong knowledge of coffee preparation techniques and espresso beverages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively.
  • Basic math skills and proficiency in handling cash transactions.
  • Attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality products and service.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • New York Food Handler’s license is a plus. You should already have one or plan to get one within the first few weeks of working with us.
