Booker T. Washington Academy is Hiring an Assistant Principal, SY 23-24 Near Washington, WA


Job Title: Assistant Principal Department: School Administration 

Reports to: Principal Effective Date: Upon Hire

Position Type: Exempt - 12 months 

Job Summary: 

Booker T. Washington Academy is seeking an innovative leader to serve as a key member of the school’s leadership team. The Assistant Principal will assist with the planning, coordination and development of the school including helping to shape a positive school climate and culture.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Support the Principal’s vision and execute the mission of the school.

  • Provide support to the Principal regarding leadership and direction to school-based staff, administrative staff, consultants, and all teachers.

  • Support the principal in supervising and observing all instructional practices in the school including coaching and mentoring directly or through other staff and/or professional development programs.

  • Assist the Principal in the coordination of all Special Education Programs.

  • Assess the needs of students for the improvement of instruction.

  • Maintain a leadership role in the implementation of applicable Federal/State regulations and guidelines.

  • Observe and support the Principal’s implementation of SRBI.

  • Implement best practices in developing student’s social emotional learning needs.

  • Build partnerships with families and community to support the instructional program

  • Support the Principal with supervision and monitoring of support services.

  • Assist with coordination and supervision of special events and extra-curricular activities.

  • Support the Principal with master scheduling, increasing student enrollment, and curriculum implementation.

  • Assist the Principal with preparation of materials in conjunction with Network Leaders for Board Meetings, including student academic achievement data based on comparative and longitudinal measures.

  • Assist with the implementation and following of policies and procedures.

  • Create a safe environment for learning.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Executive Director’s designee. 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to professionally and effectively communicate with educators, parents, and community leaders

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Extremely effective administration of multifaceted operations

  • Thorough understanding of applicable local, state, and federal educational laws, regulations, policies, and requirements

  • Thorough understanding of instructional methodology

  • Knowledge of best practices in education and educational administration

  • Ability to effectively present information and facilitate professional learning for staff

  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds

  • Knowledge of curriculum design, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of assessment processes and how they should operate in an effective school

  • Ability to extrapolate data and make data informed decisions.

  • Ability to identify and solve problems

  • Creative thinking skills

  • Ability to create, understand, and implement budgets and budgeting practices

  • Proficient with Google Products and Microsoft Office Suite or related software. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree in Education preferred.
  • School Administrator Certification (092), or ability to get certified within 60 days of hire, required. 
  • At least five years of experience in education required.
  • At least 2 years of administrative experience preferred. 

Physical Requirements: 

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
