Direct Support Professional Needed in Tarrytown, NY

Summary 
The primary role of a DSP is to work alongside the people we support in order to help them achieve their personal outcomes. A DSP employee is a member of a team of service providers who work cooperatively toprovide instruction, support, guidance, and safety for our individuals in a supervised, family-style setting. 
Responsibilities
A DSP Employee must be able to fulfill every aspect of the job requirements, including, but not limited to the following: 
-Maintaining acceptable work standards in all areas, including attendance and punctuality. Staff must give a minimum of 5 hours advance notice if unable to work a scheduled shift. There is absolutely no sleeping while on duty during any shift.
 
-Staff will clock in and out at their regularly scheduled time (not before or after) unless a supervisor has approved or requested changes. 
-Staff may be required to stay past their normally scheduled hours in an emergency situation, until relief staff arrive.
 
-All staff are required to be familiar with and implement all aspects of each individual's Habilitation Plan, including, but not limited to, Behavioral Plans, Plans of Protective Oversight, Medication Monitoring Plans, Dining Plans, etc.
 
-All staff are required to be familiar with, participate in, and implement agency emergency and safety plans (fire plan/evacuation, disaster plan). 
-Attend all mandatory meetings, including house staff meetings and required trainings 
-Have or acquire and maintain all necessary and required certifications (AMAP, CPR, First Aid, SCIP, etc) 
-Able to reach, stoop/bend, climb stairs, stand for prolonged periods of time, and be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Employee must be physically capable of transferring, assisting with transfers and lifting persons who require physical assistance. 
-Assist individuals with daily personal hygiene needs, including, but not limited to, incontinence needs, showering, shaving, hair care, dental care, clothing care, trimming and filing nails. 
-Perform light housekeeping duties, including, but not limited to, vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, dishwashing, cleaning of bathrooms and laundry. 
-Perform minor yard work, including, but not limited to, raking leaves, picking up trash, sweeping decks, sidewalks, shoveling snow, and washing/cleaning the agency vehicle. 
-Provide safe and secure transportation services to individuals in accordance with all ASF policies and procedures and adhere to all traffic laws and public safety standards.

-Act as an appropriate role model and support individuals in using appropriate language, appearance, dress, manners and respect. 
-Able to use interpersonal and communicative skills to quickly manage stressful situations responsively and effectively. Staff must possess the ability to exercise restraint and self-control in potentially volatile situations, including, but not limited to, being confronted verbally and/or physically in a threatening manner by the people receiving support. This also includes theability to deal with and redirect aggressive behavior. 
-Able to work cooperatively and provide appropriate feedback to co-workers, supervisors, and other program staff. 
-Always communicate in a respectful manner with all people including the people we support, supervisors, other valued team members, and members of the community. 
-Maintain confidentiality of records/information according to HIPAA, OPWDD State, Federal laws and guidelines. 
-Provide timely and accurate documentation as required by agency procedure and State and Federal regulations, including, but not limited to, habilitation plans, treatment/medication records, agency forms, data collection, and incident related statements or reports. 
-Report all instances of abuse, neglect, mistreatment and exploitation immediately to the appropriate supervisor. 
-Participate in the evaluation process as required by company and OPWDO guidelines. 
-All required trainings must be successfully and satisfactorily completed within the 90 day probationary period. 
Qualifications
-Possession of a high school or a high school equivalency diploma (such as a GED) or higher.-Applicants are also required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and to meet physical, medical and agility standards.
-COVID-19 vaccination required.
-Clearance from the New York State Child Abuse Registry and-the Medicaid Fraud Prevention and Detection Database. In addition, a criminal background check will be conducted.
