To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.

  •  Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational and divisional goals and objectives.
  • · Responsible for managing, directing, and supervising the following service units: Labor & Delivery, Postpartum & Nursery.
  • · Responsible for planning and monitoring staffing activities for the division, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions and continuing education initiatives.
  • · Provides for professional growth and development of staff through identification of needs, sponsoring training programs, encouraging education (formal and continuing) efforts and evaluation of same.
  • · Responsible for completion of regular performance evaluations for each staff member; conducts evaluations for new staff prior to completion of probationary period.
  • · Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • · Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • · Performs general nursing duties in all Women’s Services departments, as needed.
  • · Interacts professionally with patients/families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • · Effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence through application of positive language principles, appropriate response and use of constructive problem-solving techniques which foster positive outcomes.
  • · Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • · Keeps current with principles and practices, regulations, and standards that apply to healthcare.
  • · Participates in other assigned duties as designated by the Administration. 
Qualifications

Education:

Associate Degree in Nursing, Required

Bachelor / Master of Science in Nursing, Preferred

Required Licenses:

Must have a current Mississippi Registered Nurse license or a current Compact State Registered Nurse license.

Required Certifications:

· American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

· Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

· Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

·Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification, required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

· Blood Glucose Monitoring Training Program Certification, required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

· Certification in Non-Violent De-Escalation & Crisis Intervention Training, required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

· Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWOHNN) Certification preferred.

Required Skills:

Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific area of work.

· Possesses skills and knowledge in the following areas: principles of organization, theories of management, human resources management, strategies of nursing management, financial management, foundations of health laws, and statistics and research methodology.

· Focused on prioritizing the patient’s clinical experience, maintaining a high awareness of patient satisfaction.

· Meticulousattentiontodetailwiththeabilitytomulti-task, while demonstrating proficient time management skills.

· Strong clinical skills with the ability to respond to and cope with emergency situations professionally and calmly.

· Focused, patient and calm, performing well under pressure in a stressful environment and able to take appropriate action.

· Must be flexible, able to work as needed for appropriate divisional coverage.

· Must possess knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of word processing, email, electronic medical records, medical information systems and other similar software.

· Requires excellent written, verbal and communication skills; critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

· Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in women’s services nursing, with a primary focus on Labor & Delivery skills.

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a managerial/leadership role, preferred.

Leadership Capabilities:

Provides effective leadership and communication regarding the organization’s vision and values that are to be carried out in the day-to-day activities throughout the hospital.
