Responsibilities

• Assist manager with department staff; assign tasks and direct workflow; lead by example
• Deliver world class customer service to all guests by discovering and responding to their needs
• Utilize and update department manual and training checklists
• Ensure department staff is trained in all aspects of department responsibilities, including customer service, ordering, and pricing, stocking and fronting shelves, safe work habits, receiving and handling freight and invoices
• Monitor and motivate employee performance, take corrective action as needed in accordance with policies
• Seek ways to improve sales and promote quality, efficiency, and productivity
• Attend all department meetings and have working knowledge of sales promotions and calendar events
• Ensure promotional opportunities offered by suppliers, brokers, vendors and NCG are highlighted throughout the department and store to showcase value and unique items
• Cultivate a working knowledge of vendors, products, market availability, and delivery schedules
• Perform other duties included in the department or the store as required
• Model leadership by demonstrating objectivity, neutrality, and calmness under pressure

Requirements

• Experience with, and specific knowledge of, wellness products and natural healing
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Retail or grocery experience
• Experience supervising and motivating staff, working collaboratively, and effectively delegating responsibility within team
• Familiarity with the natural foods industry and the cooperative business model helpful
• Excellent interpersonal skills, learns quickly, and builds relationships with all levels of the organization
• Anticipates guests and store needs by evaluating the environment
• Willingness to work more than forty hours per week, including weekends, holidays, or vacation coverage
• Self-motivated; Able to maintain strict job-related confidentiality, manage workload, and prioritize tasks
• Take on new responsibilities; communicate company goals, safety practices, and deadlines to the team

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
