Boarhog LLC is Hiring an Electronics Technician (East) Near Norfolk, VA
Are you an experienced and certified senior shipyard Electronics Technician (ET) with multi-pin, copper, CAT 5 cabling skills? If you’re up for a challenge working with a great team of ETs while earning valuable experience and forming lasting relationships, we’re looking for you to join our strong team in Norfolk!. A Boarhog ET has the technical knowledge and social skills to collaborate with fellow professionals and lead a team of junior Electronics Technicians in the building, modification, testing, fault isolation, and repair of electrical or electronic systems and components.
Responsibilities:
- Build connectors. Copper, multi-pin certifications are a must. CAT 5 and fiber certifications would be a discriminator (and justify the higher end of the salary range) but not an absolute necessity starting day requirement.
- Adjust, calibrate, align, and modify circuitry and components, record effects on unit performance and teach ET Level 1 how to effectively do the same.
- Use technical reports, schematics, charts, and graphs of a system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations.
- Discuss standard layout and assembly procedures and problems with senior level technicians, including sketching design details and functions of electronics.
Qualifications:
- Absolutely must have experience working aboard ship in a private or public shipyard.
- Formal electronics training from a Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics (e.g. USAF Ground Radar Systems Tech school).
- Two (2) years of apprenticeship experience that included at least six (6) months of formal classroom training that addressed Installation Tasks, Soldering, Cable Dressing, Cable Tray, Conduit, and Making/Repairing Connectors.
- The following certifications: Multi-pin Connector Certification, Cableway Certification, Safe Shipyard Worker Certification. .
- Desirable (but not required) to possess Fiber Optic Connector and CAT 5 Certifications.
Additional Selection Criteria:
- Current possess, or be able to possess and maintain, a DoD SECRET security clearance. Boarhog's Facility Security Officer will determine clearance status or eligibility, which is a condition listed in the contingent offer of employment letter.
- Preference will be given to candidates who reside in, or agree to move into, a Small Business Administration (SBA) designated Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) area. See the SBA website for the map of HUBZone locations.
