GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the design and execution of the technical aspects of all Theatre program productions. Coordinates production crews and oversees the maintenance and use of the theatrical equipment and the theatre shops. Assists in Fine Arts and Performing Arts and other events in the Theatre.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for design and construction of the set, props, sound and lighting for all Theatre programs. Tech week begins the Sunday before the productions opens.
Teach up to two classes per semester as needed; in addition, teach a shop-based theatre practicum section as needed. Submit course assessment data as needed.
Under the supervision and with the assistance of the Director of Fine and Performing Arts, assess, improve, and implement strategic changes to the Theatre program.
Assist with recruitment activities and prospective student outreach efforts for the Theatre Program.
Oversee and maintain the Scene Shop, the Stuart Steiner Theatre and all other storage and performance spaces (costume shop, backstage of theatre) pertaining to Theatre programs. Keep theatrical areas organized.
Develop a yearly maintenance schedule and inventory of all theatrical equipment and facilities for inclusion in the College's annual report in June.
Provide updates and input for organizational budgetary resources in December for the upcoming academic year. Works with Director of Fine and Performing Arts on show budgets and hands in budget requests/lines in a timely manner according to established production schedules.
Facilitate the use of theatre spaces by internal and external groups. Identify, assign, and train production crews for in-house and external group productions. Work with Director of Fine and Performing Arts and the college's facilities manager(s) to schedule usage of theatre space where appropriate
Under the supervision of the Director of Fine and Performing Arts work with other members of the faculty and with members of the Fine Arts Committee on production dates and generate production calendar for performances for the academic year.
Work with members of Media Services and Buildings and Grounds to determine required setup of theatre and staffing of events in the theatre; serve in a supporting role for college events in the RCC Arena and other locations around campus hosting events.
Instruct theatre practicum students in safe and proper set construction, stage, lighting, and sound equipment in fall and spring semesters
Serve on Fine Arts Committee.
Serve as an Academic Advisor for Theatre students.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre or related area required. Master's preferred.
Experience
Experience teaching preferred. A minimum of three years professional technical experience in theatrical productions, teaching theatrical productions, or a combination is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Good communication and human relations skills required, as well as the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community at large. Ability to effectively monitor theatrical equipment and facilities, and experience with set building, lighting design, and sound are required. Must also be capable of coordinating productions originating from within and outside the College, and serve as a liaison between GCC Theatre and other units of the College. Must demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as the ability to establish and maintain positive learning environments for students and collaborative relationships with colleagues.
RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Director of Fine and Performing Arts and works cooperatively, collaboratively, and collegially with the Fine Arts Committee and other members of the College community.
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full time, year-round position at 35 hours per week. Position is compensated at a rate of $41,756.36 annually. Evening and weekend hours are a regular part of this position. Salary, benefits and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract.
