GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

Teach courses in Health and Physical Education to students majoring in the Health and Physical Education programs and courses for all college majors needing Health and Physical Education courses.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach in Batavia and possibly campus centers and distant learning courses in the Health and Physical Education area.

Be familiar with computer applications and a variety of teaching strategies and alternative modes of instruction.

Collaborate with faculty in the review, development, assessment, and maintenance of quality Health and Physical Education offerings.

Advise students enrolled in the Health and Physical Education programs.

Assist in the recruiting and retention of students for the Health and Physical Education programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

Master's Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Education or related area. Incumbent must attain or hold Instructor Certification from American Red Cross in Emergency Medical Response Instructor and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Instructor. Strong teaching skills with familiarity in a wide range of instructional strategies and a commitment to student and retention-centered modes of instruction.

This person will strive to create and maintain personal connections with students and the college community. They must be an approachable, enthusiastic team player with a strong work ethic who contributes to Genesee's supportive community, dedicated to effective innovative strategies for student success. Must demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as the ability to establish and maintain a positive learning environment. Incumbent must be mindful of and develop solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically. Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and the community.

Preferred Qualifications

A strong preference will be given to candidates with a background and/or ability to teach Health, Personal Training and Exercise Physiology. Teaching experience at the K-12 level and/or experience at the college level is preferred. NYS Training in School Violence Prevention and Intervention (SAVE), NYS Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, DASA is highly desired. Preparation to teach online preferred.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Director of Health and Physical Education.

The faculty member works cooperatively with other faculty in the Health and Physical Education department and other areas within the college.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time position at 35 hours per week and is compensated at a rate of $52,033.57 annually. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract.
