Therapeutic Support Specialist (TSS)
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
- The TSS works under the direct supervision of a Licensed Therapist.
- The TSS will ensure that all plans and activities are coordinated according to the treatment plans and goals of each client.
- The TSS will observe client’s behaviors daily, effectively intervene with any crisis situation, demonstrate good judgment in decision-making and provide effective redirection as needed.
- Assists in the maintenance of a safe, secure environment that enhances treatment and/or educational effectiveness and growth in social-emotional skills and self-regulation.
- Assists in progressive programmatic development using an integrative model of care with consideration of both behavioral and emotional health issues.
- Provides therapist with assistance in screening, assessment, treatment planning, life skills, wellness and prevention activities, and crisis intervention.
- Plays a significant role in providing input, treatment, and coordination for social-emotional wellness and prevention as a member of a clinical team.
- Contributes to a strength-based environment, utilizing relationship building and positive connection techniques.
- The TSS will provide a variety of direct care and supportive services by collaborating and assisting with the other mental health professionals and providers across settings.
- With supervision from Licensed Therapist, the TSS will provide assistance in the group/classroom setting by teaching and reinforcing daily skills to facilitate clients with their treatment plans and goals.
- The overall objective for the TSS is to provide our clients opportunities to learn and grow in a structured, safe, and nurturing environment, while developing healthy social-emotional skills.
- It is essential for the TSS to have the knowledge of behavioral management, de-escalation methods, defusing techniques to prevent unsafe behavior that is harmful to self or others and the ability to apply these techniques to a client population in various levels of crisis.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provides care to clients in a manner that promotes safety, comfort, and the therapeutic environment.
· Assists clients with activities of daily living; attends to client behavioral difficulties and aids in crisis intervention, as needed.
· Works with other members of a multi-disciplinary team in leading activities as outlined by the program.
· Charts client observations, following prescribed procedures and standards.
· Maintains confidentiality of client records.
· Attends and participates in group sessions/individual sessions, in-service education, and staff meetings.
· Maintains established institutional policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
· Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
· May provide liaison with patients, families of patients, or external facilities and agencies.
· Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
· Monitors activities and groups to assist therapist in data collection to inform client treatment.
· Assist with step-down support as needed for assigned clients.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
- Ability to interact with patients, families, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to assess and provide for the day-to-day needs of children ages 3-5, struggling with mental, emotional, social, and/or developmental difficulties.
- Skilled in preparing and maintaining client records.
- Ability to communicate and interact with mental health professionals and educators in a team environment.
- Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
- Foster a safe and therapeutic community environment.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and families.
- Provide direct client care, guidance, and positive role modeling.
- Ability to familiarize and maintain the standards and competencies of BBSC.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- A High School Diploma or GED with one year in behavioral health field is required.
- An Associate Degree or higher in a related field or behavioral health field is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to behavioral health is acceptable.
- Proficient ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision from a Licensed Therapist.
- Ability to function as a team member.
- Experience working with individuals from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- General knowledge and aptitude for working with adults, families, and children; regardless of sex, race, age, disability, color, creed, national origin, religion, marital status, affectional orientation, gender identity, or veteran status.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid and keep certification current.
- Negative TB Test within the past 12 months.
- Ability to show compassion and empathy with one-on-one contact and over the phone is required.
- Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, and turn on a dime, as necessary.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required.
- Ability to problem solve and exercise flexibility.
- Ability to multi-task and successfully prioritize workload.
- Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edit work for spelling and grammar.
· Ability to speak clearly and professionally in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; and participates in meetings.
· Ability to communicate professionally with supervisors and leadership and take constructive feedback.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $18.00 per hour
