Blue Origin is Hiring an Aerospace Systems Engineer II (R37767) Near Seattle, WA

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to Earth’s orbit and beyond. Engineered with a reusable first stage and a seven-meter payload fairing, New Glenn is building the road to space.

As part of a small, passionate, diverse, accomplished and rapidly evolving team of experts, you will assemble major launch vehicle structures, secondary structure, and other spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of transforming the way rockets are made and operated. If you share our passions and vision, thrive in a dynamic startup environment, excel on integrated multi-functional teams of diverse individuals, are experienced and skilled in several relevant technologies (even if perhaps not in the aerospace industry), continuously seek out opportunities to learn and improve, enjoy occasional travel, and do not allow title or job description to limit the depth or breadth of your contributions, then we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities included but are not limited to:

  • Perform activities including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), reliability analysis, and developing mitigation plans
  • Define and decompose vehicle functions
  • Develop diagrams and documentation of functional architecture
  • Ensure traceability between system and subsystem functions, requirements, and safety artifacts
  • Provide review, guidance, and expertise of subsystem safety analysis products
  • Support verification and validation of safety and reliability requirements
  • Provide technical guidance to other engineers across the program and company
  • Collaborate across Lunar Systems Engineers to develop best practices and find opportunities for common processes across project

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or related field
  • Experience with performing safety analyses including one of the following: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), reliability analysis, and mitigation plans
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering principles and practices such as requirements definition, requirements traceability, functional decomposition, and verification and validation
  • Knowledge of major spacecraft subsystems and design
  • Experience performing functional architecture definition and decomposition
  • Excellent written, verbal, and social skills, and ability to communicate technical information effectively
  • Ability to form relationships with experts from varying engineering fields and provide constructive feedback about safety and reliability concerns
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing system safety and/or reliability analysis on satellites or human-rated in-space systems
  • Strong safety and mission assurance fundamentals
  • Experience performing compliance assessment of system safety processes and products against external standards including Range Safety, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, MIL-HDBK-217, or ARP-4761
  • Experience with systems engineering tools for requirements management and modeling, such as Doors Next Generation, Windchill, and Cameo
  • Experience with design, development, and certification of spaceflight systems, avionics system architectures and designs, and radiation environments/effects
  • Experience with performing verification of safety and reliability requirements and artifacts

Applicants for employment at Blue Origin must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

About Blue Origin

Blue Origin was founded in 2000 by Jeff Bezos with the vision to enable a future where millions of people are living and working in space to benefit Earth. Blue believes we must protect Earth by moving heavy industries that stress our planet into space, and enable humanity to access space to expand, explore, and find new energy and material resources. Then we can see a dynamic and abundant future for our grandchildrens grandchildren. There is no plan B for Earth. To enable this future, we must build a road to space to lower the cost of getting there. Blue is working on this today by developing... operationally reusable launch vehicles that are safe, reliable and highly available. Every launch vehicle is designed for human spaceflight from the beginning and able to ferry payloads to space. Join the mission to build a road to space - step by step ferociously. #GradatimFerociter More
