At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security and human spaceflight.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will support the design and development of avionics subsystems that meet Blue Origin’s needs for a variety of liquid propulsion rocket engines for multiple spaceflight systems. The avionics subsystem includes the controller electronics, software, harness interconnects, instrumentation and electronic exciter used on the engine for ignition and powered flight. You support your team through requirements development and decomposition, technical trade study support, risk management, integration, verification, and a myriad of other systems engineering-related activities. These responsibilities will require wide application of systems engineering principles and concepts, plus an understanding of avionics and other related subject areas. You will work with the Engines Design Office and your team in using technical standards and processes to enable robust, right-sized avionics development. This includes sharing lessons learned across the Blue Engines programs to continuously improve how Blue Origin develops avionics and engine control systems.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Mentor, both technically and professionally, less-experienced team members
  • Develop high-level FPGA requirements for engine controller electronics
  • Perform technical trade study support
  • Draft or review Software-FPGA interface control document (SW-FPGA ICD)
  • Support the FPGA design team
  • Perform or review FPGA verification activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related field
  • 2 years of experience in systems engineering or electrical engineering (FPGA)
  • Experience in complex embedded systems development
  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative team environments
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and development kits.
  • Knowledge of design assurance level (DAL) implementations.
  • Experience implementing instrumentation measurement circuits.

About Blue Origin

Blue Origin was founded in 2000 by Jeff Bezos with the vision to enable a future where millions of people are living and working in space to benefit Earth. Blue believes we must protect Earth by moving heavy industries that stress our planet into space, and enable humanity to access space to expand, explore, and find new energy and material resources. Then we can see a dynamic and abundant future for our grandchildrens grandchildren. There is no plan B for Earth. To enable this future, we must build a road to space to lower the cost of getting there. Blue is working on this today by developing... operationally reusable launch vehicles that are safe, reliable and highly available. Every launch vehicle is designed for human spaceflight from the beginning and able to ferry payloads to space. Join the mission to build a road to space - step by step ferociously. #GradatimFerociter More
