The Opportunity

As the Construction Employee Relation Specialist , you will have the opportunity to:

  • SupportBlack & Veatch construction projects, human resources, and field supervisors in a variety of areas, including resolving employee conflicts

  • Coachand counselto resolve performance management issues

  • Resolvereported employment and work environment complaints

  • Facilitatethe termination and reduction of force process

  • Provideongoing interpretation of company policies in accordance with federal and state laws

  • Work under direction of the Director of Workplace Investigations and Compliance, todrive high-quality employee relations counsel and support anddeliver positive employee relations-related training to aid in minimizing workplace conflicts

The Team

As part of BV Business Enablement , you will be part of the critical and forward-thinking group that enables our people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible by providing creative solutions. Functions in this group include CIO/Global Information Technology, Diode, ESH&S, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Construction Field Leaders and HR in managing routine employee relations issues including performance issues, reductions in force, and complaints and investigations that resolve problems and reduce legal risks

  • Educate, train and guide managers and supervisors in practices that help ensure equitable treatment of professionals and in compliance with state and federal employment laws

  • Ability to deliver training around EEO compliance, progressive discipline and performance management aimed at building positive employee relations

  • Attend meetings and/or conferences/seminars to stay current on employee compliance and related laws; monitor trends and advise the business accordingly

  • Provide reporting as requested

  • Identify and assess improvement opportunities

  • Ability to travel, sometimes on short notice

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5 years of employee relations experience

  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. federal, state and local employment laws and employee relations trends

  • Strong Human Relations skills (written, verbal, client service)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and confidence with all levels of employees

  • Strong leadership, facilitation, team building and process improvement skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to conduct thorough investigations effectively and efficiently

  • Demonstrated experience working in the industrial construction industry

Certifications

aPHR, PHR, or SPHR

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Normal work environment with hybrid schedule: 3 days in office and 2 days remote
