Bittersweet Pastry Shop is Hiring a Baker Near Chicago, IL

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Baker to join our team.

This position has the opportunity to be either overnight or a very early start for the morning bake. You will be producing our laminated doughs, brioche, sourdough, cookies and more.

Bonus you will be training and working with master baker Karen Trejo and Top Chef Katsuji Tanabe.

Responsibilities

- Prepare and bake a wide range of baked goods, including bread, pastries, cakes, and cookies

- Follow recipes and ensure that all products are made to the highest quality standards

- Assist with inventory management and ordering supplies as needed

- Maintain a clean and organized work area

- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines

- Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations

Skills

To excel in this role, you should have the following skills:

- Culinary skills: Strong knowledge of baking techniques and methods

- Food handling: Ability to handle food safely and maintain proper hygiene practices

- Food preparation: Experience in measuring ingredients, mixing doughs, and preparing fillings or toppings

- Cooking skills: Familiarity with using ovens, mixers, and other baking equipment

- Restaurant experience: Previous experience working in a bakery or restaurant setting is preferred

- Knowledge of the food industry: Understanding of industry trends and customer preferences

- Food production: Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment

- Kitchen organization: Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

- Knife skills: Proficiency in using knives for cutting, slicing, and shaping doughs
