Birmingham Fastener & Supply is Hiring a Quality Inspector Near Santa Fe, CA

Quality Assurance Inspector

Classification: Non-Exempt

Summary

The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing random inspections in manufacturing departments for in-process and final inspection verification purposes. The ideal candidate, after training is complete, will be able to perform mini-audits throughout the facility to ensure proper identification of raw and finished goods in accordance with the Lot Traceability and Control Procedure. This position will involve detailed record keeping, analyzing data/information, having the ability to work independently or in a team environment, critical thinking, and using good judgment in decision-making. Candidate must possess the ability to read and understand information/ideas presented in written form.

Visually and/or dimensionally inspect products manufactured or processed by private companies to ensure conformance with specifications and requirements as set by the customer, department procedures, and quality standards. Coordinate with management and quality personnel on related product quality problems and expedite solutions in a timely manner. Maintain product quality documentation in compliance with established procedures. Monitor product and process non-compliance and verify compliance as described in the Quality Assurance Manual.

Essential Functions/Duties

  1. Perform all duties in conformance with company policy and quality system procedures.
  2. Respond to customers’ needs, consistent with Quality and Corporate standards, culture, and business practices. 
  3. Inspect military and customer drawings and specifications. 
  4. Inspect all incoming inventory.
  5. Verify manufacturers Certificate of Conformance and Test Reports.
  6. Understand and utilize inspection sampling plan and unique sampling plans of customers. 
  7. Use inspection tools including calipers, micrometers, plugs, gages, etc.
  8. Stamp mark of approval or rejection on product.
  9. Verify part number cross -references using specifications and drawings. 
  10. Arrange for calibration services and maintain calibration records.
  11. Maintain all Quality documentation in your area.
  12. Maintain and understand unique customer requirements. 
  13. Complete the following: non-conforming report, receiving report, Return Material Authorization, inspection records, and corrective action reports. 
  14. Retain information for the corrective/preventive action program, inclusive of tracking status of open actions, receiving. and reviewing responses, working with departments for timely completion and periodic reports and metrics. 
  15. Assure Internal/External corrective action opportunities are channeled through the CAR system. 
  16. Submit completed CARs for approval and closure. 
  17. Report ongoing activities to Management Team and keep the company continuous improvement efforts on track. 
  18. Identify and segregate discrepant material. 
  19. Manage scrapped material. 
  20. Perform area quality audits. 
  21. Maintain all Quality related documentation according to company procedures and ISO 9001/AS9120 requirements. 
  22. Communicate with Vendor Quality Control Managers.
  23. Document and chart vendor and internal non-conformances. 
  24. Communicate with and assist purchasing department in maintaining Approved Vendor Listing. 
  25. Review of Process / Quality functions to suggest improvements.
  26. Be mobile and work on your feet for extended periods.
  27. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor. 
  28. Exhibit a positive work attitude. 
  29. Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.

  8. Experienced in using multi-line phone system, copier, scanner and fax machines. Must be advanced user of Microsoft Office Programs 
  9. Must be able to make basic mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, conversion of fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions, convert units of measure and have working knowledge of a calculator. 
  10. Must have advanced clerical skills including organizational skills, filing ability, documentation control, checking, and coding. 
  11. Be able to use logic and reasoning to problem solve. 
  12. Ability to prevent products from being shipped or entered into stock due to quality issues.
  13. Refined communication both written and verbal. Must be able to speak clearly and communicate with others. 

Physical/Cognitive Demands

This is a physically active role including walking long distances (over uneven surfaces) to/within our production facility at times, lifting 50lbs or more, and standing for long periods. Position also requires bending, stooping, squatting or standing as necessary. Cognitive abilities required include deductive reasoning, information ordering, oral comprehension, oral expression, problem sensitivity, written comprehension, and written expression.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. The hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.

Required Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  1. Minimum of two years’ experience in the inspection of Aerospace fasteners and prior experience in an Aerospace quality environment.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Bilingual English/Spanish language skills is a plus.
  1. Experienced and knowledgeable in Aerospace industry. Ability to perform inspection using micrometers, calipers, height gages, ring gages, plug gages, comparators, and tri-rolls to check pitch diameters. Must be highly knowledgeable in all aspects of fasteners, i.e., material use and fabrication, fastener I.D and substitution, metal or material type, plating, coating, finishing, and processing. Must be able to read and understand drawings, specifications, and processing requirements. Must have working knowledge of Military and government specifications and prior knowledge of quality standards and expectations.
