Packing Supervisor (1st Shift)

Classification: Exempt

Reports to: Shipping Manager

Direct Reports: Packing Team

Summary

The Packing Supervisor provides direct leadership and accountability for warehouse teams. This position is responsible and accountable for managing incoming raw materials and/or finished goods. They support material delivery to external and internal customers for multiple distribution sites, as well as, ensuring the accuracy of inventory, inspection of packaging & labeling requirements (and remediation if defective) and timely execution of shipments. This role may also include (at peak times): offloading/loading of vehicles, receipt of goods, positioning in racks, physical order preparation and cycle counts.

Essential Functions/Duties

  1. Ensure that all employees observe and maintain a safe working environment.
  2. Ensure a safe work environment and site security for entire work site including multiple distribution facilities.
  3. Represent Birmingham Fasteners' core values in all interactions and operations.
  4. Provide the Distribution team with clear goals, objectives and performance feedback, coaching and developing direct reports to improve the culture of the team and site.
  5. Manage staffing levels in order to meet business delivery and cost goals
  6. Ensure associates deliver high quality products to our customers. 
  7. Manage DC targets on operational costs, equipment/process efficiencies (labor, energy, etc.), and departmental productivity as assigned by the Shipping Center Manager. 
  8. Ensure the facilities and equipment are clean and able to support our customers and employees.
  9. Supervise the assembly of kits containing flanges, gaskets, nuts and bolts, and anchor bolts.
  1. Utilize Epicor Profit 21 system and Microsoft products to manage packaging processes and documentation.
  2. Maintain accurate inventory records of components and finished products.
  3. Collaborate with the Shipping Manager to coordinate packaging schedules and priorities.

  10. Must have a solid working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook applications
  11. Must possess an active, unexpired driver’s license and a clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  12. Operate forklifts safely and efficiently to move materials and finished products as needed.

Physical/Cognitive Demands

This is largely a physically active role including walking long distances (over uneven surfaces) to/within our production facility, lifting 50lbs or more, and standing for long periods. Position also requires bending, stooping, squatting or standing as necessary. Cognitive abilities required include deductive reasoning, information ordering, oral comprehension, oral expression, problem sensitivity, written comprehension, and written expression.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position will support all warehouse areas for packaging department. The regular schedule will be M-F 7am-3:30pm. Mandatory overtime hours are required on a recurring basis.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school 
  2. Five or more years of Proven Leadership experience
  3. Equivalent combination of both education and leadership experience may be acceptable

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Distribution Center Experience will be given priority
  2. Manufacturing and Sales organization experience a plus
