Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our team. As a Certified Pharmacy Technician, you will perform designated technical and clerical tasks associated with the preparation, labeling and dispensing of medications, including sterile admixtures and prepackaged or unit dose drugs. You will play a crucial role in assisting pharmacists in providing quality care to patients and perform designated tasks regarding pharmacy quality control, management of pharmacy records, inventory control and preparation of orders for drugs. All functions are under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. If you have a strong background in IV infusion, hospital pharmacy/retail or specialty pharmacy, along with excellent patient service skills, we encourage you to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and generate batches for preparation of prescriptions.
- Prepare prescriptions and enters into pharmacy software system for pharmacist verification including delivery addresses, FedEx tracking numbers, changes in patient health status and communications to pharmacist.
-Accurately enters new product and supply inventory into pharmacy software system and maintains appropriate drug and supply inventory levels.
-Generates labels, picks, and packages prepackaged and unit dose drugs in accordance with dispensing order (pick-list).
-Maintains patient files with current prescriptions.
- Ensures all pending orders are approved by communicating with billing department prior to shipment to assure insurance clearance prior to shipment date (prior authorization).
-Notifies pharmacist of new prescriptions for subsequent patient orders.
- Works with intake coordinator to schedule shipment of drugs, pumps and supplies.
- Communicates with field staff and managers on shipment details: items shipped, delivery address, shipment date
- Processes reorders in CPR according to RCC/PCS Order Request Forms
- Accepts product and supply deliveries, unpacks, verifies accuracy of order and forwards packing information to accounts payable department
- Monitors FedEx shipments to confirm delivery; fax delivery tickets into system
- Files delivery tickets, order forms and prescriptions in an efficient, timely manner
- Performs and records quality assurance activities
- Maintains medication, ancillaries and supplies inventory levels to company goals; rotates stock and utilizes return process
- Ensures pharmacy area is clean and maintained per organizational policy and procedure
- Proactively improves understanding of bleeding disorders and other chronic disorders, products and treatments; stays current on legislative changes and insurance coverages, and is capable of disseminating this information to employees, patients and others within the bleeding disorder community
- Attends QMC meetings on a quarterly basis and provides input
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise; attends continuing education programs to maintain expertise in pharmacy and information systems
- Participates in continuing education programs appropriate to this position, and maintain current knowledge of government regulations and industry best practices; provides relevant updates to staff members accordingly
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Adhere to all pharmacy laws, regulations, and standards
Experience:
To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications:
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current and valid Pharmacy Technician certification in good standing and issued by state in which duties are performed
- 2-3 years of experience in retail/hospital pharmacy/specialty pharmacy
- Strong customer service skills, focus and dedication
- Basic computer and internet skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in compounding medications
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high levels of professionalism and patient care
