Budget Title: Student Activities Associate (SL-2)

Salary: $47,261 - $50,000

The Coordinator for New Student Programs at Binghamton University will serve as a member of the Orientation team whose responsibilities include but are not limited to recruiting and training student staff, the creation and implementation of a First-year peer mentorship program and Orientation housing coordination. A successful candidate will need to have outstanding verbal and written communication skills, be organized and have the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.

Duties include:

  • Assist the Director for New Student Programs with the development and implementation of recruitment and hiring strategies for Orientation student staff.
    • Coordinate a referral program in collaboration with campus partners to promote the Orientation Advisor position.
    • Oversee the development and management of all marketing, publication and content strategies for New Student Programs hiring initiatives.
    • Provide support for general office management including processing and maintaining records of staff HR forms.
    • Coordinate training schedules for all temporary summer staff positions including Orientation Advisors, Summer Staff, and Orientation Program Assistants.
  • Serve as the central administrator for all residential buildings assigned to the Orientation program including building set-up and Orientation housing assignment turnover; general correspondences with other departments and maintenance staff.
    • Responsible for creating and overseeing the Orientation Advisor in-hall work schedule including bulletin board designs, door tags, key assignments and other responsibilities as necessary.
    • Responsible for creating and implementing inventory systems including room condition reports, maintenance reporting and facilities issues throughout the Orientation program.
    • Coordinate billing policies for lost keys and room damage after each Orientation session.
    • Manage and coordinate all Orientation Advisor and new student room assignments for all Orientation sessions through the online system VZOrientation.
  • Assist the Director with the creation and implementation of a First-year peer mentorship program focusing on transitional topics to enhance student belonging and support University retention efforts.
  • Engage in all aspects of the Orientation program including collaborative work with administrative staff, general correspondence with new students and family members, data entry and general customer service responsibilities for transfer and first-year Orientation programs.
  • Support New Student Programs with additional programs and events throughout the academic year including the annual B-Photo and New Student Picnic as well as any new initiatives.
Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of post-undergraduate experience
  • Experience working in a University setting
  • Excellent administrative, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously in a team atmosphere
  • Able to work well in a diverse setting that includes faculty, staff, and students

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs or related field
  • Working knowledge of Banner, OmniUpdate, and VZOrientation
