Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)

Salary: $55,151

The successful candidate will assist the Associate Director for New York State Aid Operations with overseeing the processes and procedures of awarding and distributing New York State Aid. The Scholarships Coordinator will work closely with the organization in charge of New York State Aid, the Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC). They will coordinate the day-to-day operational, programmatic, and administrative responsibilities associated with the HESC awards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for oversight and processing of all New York State Financial Aid and Scholarships, including TAP, Excelsior, STEM, and others
  • Responsible for compliance with State aid regulations specific to NYS aid grants and scholarships
  • Work in conjunction with Academic Advising and Faculty Advisors to interpret aid regulations and advise students and families appropriately
  • Responsible for outreach to students and families to create an understanding of NYS aid regulations and communications when students are at risk of losing eligibility
  • Responsible for system testing of all functions related to NYS aid processing and certification - work with Information Technology Services, the SICAS Center, and the Higher Education Services Corporation to test new functionality as it is made available and adapt to Binghamton University business as appropriate
  • Coordinate staff training in topics related to NYS aid
  • Coordinate with the Associate Director for NYS Aid Operations to create and maintain an NYS aid production schedule, detailing the timeline and communication stream for all businesses related to NYS aid processing and certification
  • Develop yearly aid for part-time student plan and timely as well as a year-end summary
  • Develop and maintain APTS procedures for awarding, certification, and disbursement of funds
  • Develop a general understanding of Federal Financial Aid regulations to assist staff in understanding how Federal and NYS aid interact as an entire financial aid package
  • Actively participate in Financial Aid Counselors meetings by bringing forth questions to discuss examples of best practices and issues as they arise
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and participating in various community and institutional financial aid events- participation in Open Houses, Orientation, and community outreach events is expected
  • Actively service NYS Aid students and families both in person, on the phone, and via email

This is a full-time, onsite position.


Job Requirements:

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher)
  • Experience making administrative decisions and judgments, organizing resources, and establishing priorities
  • Strong working knowledge of data management programs like Excel
  • Proven advocate for students who are from diverse backgrounds, effectively counsel and advise students and their families
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and team environment
  • Ability to work independently, manage several projects and priorities, and meet deadlines

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the Higher Education Services Corporation
  • Base knowledge in campus management systems like Banner
  • Two years of experience serving diverse student populations, specifically in financial aid, academic advising, or a registrar environment
