We are hiring a Community Engagement Volunteer Coordinator to cover specific counties, please see details below.
The Community Engagement Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, assigning, supervising, recognizing, and managing the performance of Big Bend Hospice Volunteers. This position will collaborate with Community Relations components to assist in Volunteer recruitment which includes presentations, tabling events, and hosting interest meetings. We are looking for experienced individuals who understand how to creatively attract and retain enthusiastic and highly engaged volunteers.


We are hiring a Community Engagement Volunteer Coordinator who will focus on the following geographic area:

  • Jefferson, Madison, & Taylor Counties
  • Gadsden and Liberty Counties

Your Main Duties and Responsibilities

(Includes but, not limited to)

Volunteer Coordinator Duties:

  • Acknowledge, celebrate, and sustain volunteer involvement
  • Advocate for volunteer participation
  • Assign ideal volunteers to Patient-Families or Staff
  • Attract, screen & onboard a volunteer workforce
  • Document Volunteer Involvement in BBH EMR
  • Manage volunteer performance and impact
  • Plan for strategic volunteer engagement
  • Supervise, coach, & evaluate volunteer performance
  • Provide volunteers with consistent communication

Other important Job duties and functions:

  • Audit process for continuous improvement opportunities
  • Build organizational capacity – Planning and development
  • Collect, analyze, and act upon reliable and valid data
  • Deliver, and exchange information with the IDT and other various BBH departments
  • Develop mutually beneficial collaborations via outreach & partnerships- recruitment
  • Manage conflict and lead
  • Organize, motivate, and control resources- resource allocation and stewardship
  • Report monthly KPI’s
  • Research and develop new initiatives
  • Respond and assess Patient-Family needs
  • Update SOP’s and workflows
  • Volunteer Coordination: The volunteer coordinator plays a crucial role in recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers. They ensure that volunteers are properly matched with patients and tasks, enhancing the quality of care provided. This requires a presence in all three counties.
  • Compliance and Regulation: Managing volunteers in a healthcare setting involves adhering to various regulations and guidelines. The volunteer coordinator ensures we participate in all IDT’s, and reduces risk of non- compliance.
  • Enhanced Patient Care: Hospice volunteers provide emotional support, companionship, and practical assistance to patients and their families. The strategic county volunteer coordinator optimizes volunteer placements to meet the specific needs of each patient, improving overall care.
  • Time and Resource Efficiency: Coordinating volunteers can be time-consuming. The volunteer coordinator streamlines the process, allowing clinical staff to focus on their primary responsibilities while volunteers handle supportive tasks
  • Training and Development: Volunteers require training in areas like communication, infection control, HIPPA, professional boundaries, and psychosocial aspects of death and dying. The volunteer coordinator must provide this training, ensuring volunteers are well-prepared to serve effectively.
  • Volunteer Retention: A dedicated volunteer coordinator builds strong relationships with volunteers, boosting retention rates. Happy and engaged volunteers are more likely to provide long-term support.
  • Community Engagement: Hospice volunteers are often drawn from the local community. The volunteer coordinator strengthens community partnerships, recruits new volunteers, and raises awareness about hospice services.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitoring and evaluating volunteer performance is essential for maintaining high-quality care. The volunteer coordinator implements quality assurance processes and addresses any issues promptly.


Requirements:

  • BA/BS Degree in public relations, communications, social work, human resources, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in marketing, public relations, or related field; preferably in health care and with some experience at a management level.
  • Recruiting or sales experience is a plus
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and more)
  • Valid driver's license
