Job Summary: The Director of Programs manages the overall direction of the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center’s programs, mentors and develops leaders, creates best practices and is responsible for ensuring high quality service delivery outcomes across all programs. The Director’s primary role is to ensure that all programs effectively realize BHNC’s vision of improving the social and economic outcomes of the community while ensuring equitable access to resources that support sustainability in San Francisco. This is accomplished through strength based programs to include: active senior programming, service connection at housing sites, food pantries, community engagement, employment services, and advocacy through a cultural humility lens. This is a full-time exempt position that reports to the Executive Director and works in close coordination with the management team.
The Organization: Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center (BHNC) is a non-profit community based multi-service agency founded in 1978. Our mission is “Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center works to preserve and enhance the ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of Bernal Heights and surrounding neighborhoods. We promote community action to build a just and equitable community for all. BHNC focuses on the needs of people with low and moderate incomes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop programmatic strategies, delivery and outcomes that align with the mission and vision of BHNC.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE JOB:
Program Implementation: Ability to interact and communicate well with other staff to provide a cohesive team approach. Minimum of three years of supervision experience of increasing responsibility. Enthusiasm for leadership development and community organizing in a mixed income, multi-racial, multi-ethnic community including two public housing developments. Commitment to racial equity, social action, social justice, delivery of quality services, and development of people into leaders. Minimum of five years formal management experience, including fund development, program operations and development, budget management and grant reporting. Experience developing and presenting formal and on-the-job training. Conflict resolution skills required. Ability to interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Skills in negotiating, exchanging ideas, opinions, and information with others to formulate policies and programs. Skills and experience in developing effective relationships with the community and govt. leaders, funding sources.
Valid Driver’s license required with two-year clean driving history

HOURS: Full-time, exempt position.
