Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center is Hiring a Racial Equity Coordinator Near San Francisco, CA

Job Summary- We are seeking a passionate and resourceful Racial Equity Program Coordinator with strong administrative and research skills who is interested in helping us remap our service model to bring about racial equity in programming. Under the direction of the Senior Services Program Manager, the Equity Program Coordinator plays an instrumental role in shaping our service model, connecting us with other organizations and working with leadership to inequities, while assessing emerging needs of our active and at-risk seniors and adults with disabilities. Our older adults are at a high risk of isolation and appropriate and accessible services enable them to remain independent and well supported. This person will track emerging needs that allow us to pivot programming and respond accordingly. This primary audience this position will serve is seniors and adults with disabilities living in the Bernal Heights, Excelsior and Outer Mission. Candidates agree to practice cultural humility among staff and clients utilize it as a lens when servicing our clients as well as when working with our partners. This position is characterized by a high degree of initiative, strong organization, demonstrated follow-up and follow-through skills, and an ability to work with a diverse group of staff, community members, and community partners. The position also requires proficient computer skills and strong verbal and written communication abilities.

The Organization- Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center (BHNC) is a non-profit community based multi-service agency founded in 1978. Our mission is “…to preserve and enhance the ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of Bernal Heights and surrounding neighborhoods. We promote community action to build a just and equitable community for all. BHNC focuses on the needs of people with low and moderate incomes. We work to accomplish our mission by:
  • Developing affordable housing throughout San Francisco;

  • Providing linguistically and culturally responsive services to our community’s most vulnerable adults, seniors, youth, and their families;
  • Developing leaders; organizing and empowering our tenants, clients, members, and allies to advocate for their needs and for the needs of the community.”
BHNC has five key program areas to meet this mission: Housing Development and Rehabilitation, Senior Programs, Youth Programs, Employment Programs and Community Organizing. We serve a thousand youth, adults and seniors annually from our offices in Bernal Heights and the Excelsior. Our programs raise funds from the public sector, housing development and management, foundations, local businesses and individuals.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES-
  • Coordinate and complete a neighborhood assessment model as it relates to access and availability to services.

  • Coordinate the shaping of programming standards as it relates to activities and client engagement.
  • Develop and maintain systems for reviewing client needs and neighborhood resources
  • Assist in the implementation of Salesforce Case Management software and client need tracking systems
  • Review intakes, assess and track needs for client experience
  • Complete and review intakes and assessments for incoming participants for the Active Senior Program and process electronically using the DAAS GetCare (CMS)
  • Complete participant charting, monthly reports, and other documentation as required by BHNC and funding sources
  • Provide direct short-term social services such as: completing applications, translations, reviewing correspondence, information and referrals for a variety of services and arranging for care and other services needed for participants who attend the senior center
  • Evaluate client needs, follow-up and document progress notes to ensure quality and effective service delivery for participants
  • Provide administrative support and assistance during programming for activities, field trips, newsletters, translations, etc.
  • Reshape the social service referrals for other programs
  • Provide outreach to frail at risk elders and disabled adults with low incomes
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new programming, activities, an outreach efforts
  • Maintain effective communication with volunteers, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Attend all BHNC meetings, events and activities as requested. Participation in meetings including: monthly Senior Staff, BHNC Staff, and advisory committee meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Program Implementation: Ability to interact and communicate well with other staff to provide a cohesive team approach. Minimum of three years administrative experience. Ability to work in an active setting with staff and volunteers while providing excellent customer service. Enthusiasm for leadership development and community organizing in a mixed income, multi-racial, multi-ethnic community including two public housing developments. Commitment to racial equity, cultural humility, social action, social justice, delivery of quality services, and development of people into leaders. Experience developing and implementing programs. Conflict resolution skills required. Ability to interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Skills in negotiating, exchanging ideas, opinions, and information with others to formulate policies and programs. Skills and experience in developing effective relationships with the community and government leaders, funding sources.

  • Communication: Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret and teach general information, and to read and understand government grants and regulations. Ability to write monthly reports, business correspondence, and assist in producing policies and procedures. Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and to differentiate areas within the scope of responsibility and identify areas needing additional support... Ability to present information and respond to questions from youth, seniors, work groups, managers, funders, and the general public. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information. Ability to inspire, motivate and support staff and communicate daily with the management team.
  • General: Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast paced and independent environment. Ability to perform mathematical functions for budget tracking purposes including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, calculation of percentages, copying figures, counting, and recording. Strong organizational skills with attention to details, consistently able to follow through and able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Strong sense of accountability and responsibility. Ability to lead with initiative and lead by example. Ability to respond to high intensity situations and crisis appropriately, safely, and de-escalate volatile situations. Ability to adapt to changes in a highly energetic work environment. Strong ability to follow-up and follow-through on assignments. Strong time management and organization skills required. Demonstrates awareness and ability to address cultural needs of targeted population using a Cultural Humility lens. Seeks guidance when situations arise that may not be covered by established policies and procedures.
  • Technology: Requires use of a computer on a daily basis. Proficiency with Microsoft Office required, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Proficiency with the internet and email required. Proficiency with Google Suite required, including but not limited to Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Forms, and Google Voice. Experience with Slack preferred. Experience with Asana and Salesforce preferred. Experience or desire to learn DAS GetCare Database.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish
  • BA degree or AA/AS or 3 years of experience
  • Must have valid Driver’s License for a minimum of 3 years
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED training preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires frequent sitting, typing and computer use * occasionally requires pushing and/or pulling objects, walk up and down stairs and/or hills, lifting and/or carrying up to 25 lbs. * requires the ability to frequently move about or remain seated depending on the task at hand.
This full-time, non-exempt position includes a competitive salary based on experience with employee paid benefits that include medical, dental, life, EAP, generous paid time off, and holidays, paid lunch, monthly cell phone stipend and more. Must be able to work 9 to 5pm Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours
