JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Payroll Accountant

REPORTS TO: Treasurer

EMPLOYMENT TERM: 261 days

SALARY: Berkeley County Schools Teacher Pay Scale w/ Coordinator Index

LOCATION(S): Central Office

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for overseeing the entire payroll process including the processing of payroll for all regular employees, substitutes, and miscellaneous employees. Accountable for ensuring that pay is accurate and that appropriate deductions are withheld. Role includes directing the processing of timesheets, tax filings, WVEIS/TSSI verifications, garnishments and Board actions. Reviews and approves payroll deductions, interprets district policies and government regulations in connection with payroll procedures, and directs preparation of required reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing and supervising accounts payable, payroll procedures and related accounts efficiently and effectively.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to process all board actions (i.e. appointments, transfers, resignations, leaves, etc.).
  • Ensure that all Board actions are calculated and entered to ensure all employees are paid appropriately.
  • Maintaining accounting records accurately and efficiently.
  • Completing records and reports related to billing, budgets, purchasing and related operations accurately and efficiently.
  • Responsible for accurate payroll related approved Board actions
  • Ensure that all timesheets are entered and calculated correctly.
  • Supervise processing of timesheets.
  • Complete callbacks for all timesheets.
  • Review reports to ensure payroll accuracy
  • Ensure that payrolls are processed timely in order to allow time for direct deposit processing and check printing/mailing.
  • Review payroll reports to detect errors/omissions

EDUCATION AND EXPERIECE:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (B.A., B.S., etc.) in Finance or related field
  • Licensure: CPA Preferred
  • Previous Experience: 4 years prior successful payroll processing and management experience preferred
  • Prior experience with WVIES preferred

Pay: $58,735.00 - $98,032.00 per year
